A WordPress site idea!! Appreciate all advices

Hi,

I have been planning to set up a WordPress site on relationship/family/social matters, and there will be quality contents on it. (I am a terrible writer myself, but I have a few contacts of the good ones).

The primary aim is to help people who are going through the same issues or who need something like this, and hopefully I might find a way to lead the traffic back to my other site (which is kind of failing but I am not going to give up on my inspiration).

The question is, since I am in this niche (relationship & etc), is there a chance to make money on it own? Is there any affiliated products or anyway to generate passive income?

Please bear with my writing skills and would like to thank you in advance.

    Shane, you can monetize your website by creating an opt in page for your website visitors. If you create a list using this method you can continuously email advertisements to them. As far as affiliate sites go, I'm not sure if there is much in that niche. You could sell Ebooks or make an information product within the niche.

    Before you go this far I would really make sure there is a hungry market because if there is not, you're dead in the water.

    Shane, the relationship/family niches are very broad. There are lots of people who look for info in these niches everyday. However, I suggest you narrow down within those niches because it would be easier for you to provide the relevant contents and targeting your right audience becomes easier too.

    You can start using google adwords and online forums to identify what people are searching for in your selected niche and from there analyse if your sub-niche has plenty of people searching for it and willing to pay for the info.

    There are plenty of affiliate products within those niches on Clickbank where you can make money from, so if you had done your research well, you should be able to find products that suit your target audience.

    However, from my experience, I find that if you're just beginning an online business, it would be better to start off with internet marketing niche because you will need to learn about internet marketing itself to be able to succeed online. Besides, there are many tools and resources in this niche that can help you grow faster. Once you know the ins and outs of selling online, moving on to another niche like relationship/family becomes easier because you already know what it takes to succeed online.

      Thank you so much for your kind advice and it is well noted. But I am abit worry to start with IM since it is said to be extremely competitive yet further advices will be appreciated as well. Like you said, I am a newbie to this online business I am trying hard to learn as much as I can. So again, I would be thankful for all the guidance and advices.

    I suggest make your site unique and appealing. Base on your content and website idea make it SEO optimize also.

    There are free themes on wordpress just choose the best. Make it look professional and put a lot of useful and high quality of contents to make it informative and useful to other people.

    I would start selling audio books in mp3 format.
    People who are interested in improving their relationships (mostly psychological stuff) will be grateful to you for the audio content. It's easy to download and listen while driving a car or jogging in the morning etc..

    I wouldn't go too broad, pick a very specific topic within your niche and stick to that. If you are not a writer yourself you could do podcasts or videos. These are popular now and focus on building a good list.

      Go too broad, and you'll find yourself competing with very heavy hitters, from Huffington to Parade Magazine (Sunday newspaper supplement in the US, now online) and tens of thousands of other relationship blogs.

      Even the major magazines niche down a bit. Cosmo? Young women. Redbook? Middle age, middle class women. You get the point?

      On the other hand, going too niche limits your audience. "Dating tips for 27 year old biracial men named Stanley with above average IQs who play Dungeons and Dragons six nights a week and still live in their parents' basement" might be ultra-specific, but the prospect pool is pretty shallow.

      It's a balancing act. You want a target small enough to provide value the general-audience authority sites can't, but big enough to give you enough prospects to make your financial goals.
