Can anyone recommend an easy way to build an email list via WordPress?

Hello. Another noob question from me. I hope you guy/gals don't mind.

1.) What is an easy way to put a mailing list option on my sidebar.php? Can I use the third party free sources or is there a free WP plugin I should be looking at? I'm hosting my WP blog.

2.) Are RSS feeds the same thing but the new thing people are using? How easy is that to incorporate into WP?

I just got some other plugins to work so I think I should continue as I may be on a roll!

Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

Codebanter Plugin and FasterIM plugin will do it. Google them.

You should be able to easily plug in the code (i.e. aweber code if using aweber) into your sidebar by using a basic text widget.

Alternatively, you could punch it in manually in the sidebar.php file. You'd need to experiment with this and tweak it out until you got it to look the way you want.

The easiest way to add a mailing list option is to just add a text widget and with your autoresponder code. That is by far the most simple way to build a list with a blog.

That's it. Just paste your autoresponder code into a text widget > hit save and your done.

I use Get Response - though I would choose something different if doing it all over again.

But Get Response does produce html code to insert in a text widget.

I also purchased a program here at WF. Do a search for the name "Seree." That's who was selling it.

It was supposed to allow me to either use a pop-up opt-in or place the code in the sidebar. I could never get the sidebar code to work properly. But the pop-up was okay. I don't like pop-up opt-ins, so I stick with Get Response.

    Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies. I will be trying out the Aweber route with a text widget. I admittedly never have installed a widget before but I think I can figure that out. Aweber isn't free?

I use a plugin called gwa autoresponder (http://freeautoresponder.biz)

This helps me run my mailing sequence from the wordpress blog, besides of course giving me the form code for my pages or sidebar.
