How to create the next big thing?

Hello!

Even though this is my first post, I have been following WF for a long time. Today I thought of sharing something that would benefit you all.

I work as a developer for a multinational company. We have created many famous automated tools. And most importantly we have created many software millionaires.

So people enter to this field with "I have got a million dollar idea". But only 0.00001% make it a success. Why? Why haven't we heard about software millionaires lately?

Its because of 3 things.

1. Be confident in your idea.
20 years ago, people knew where technology was taking them. But now, its a big uncertainty. We don't know what will be the next big thing. Look at facebook. Facebook was created for one thing and now it has become something else completely. Same goes for google, ebay and payapl. So if you got a million dollar idea, leave all technology for a week(at least) and stay without touching your mobile devices. Use that time to think about what it will do. Don't think about how it will make you rich! It will come later. first think about the quantity of users that will use it. If its more than 1 million you are good to go!

2. Hire a proper software/web/mobile development team.
This is where everyone go wrong! DO NOT hire freelancers or use out sourcing sites. They are for college projects and 5 page websites! That's it! Spend some money for your life long dream and hire a good software firm. Because it doesn't matter how great is your idea, its all about presenting it these days. At least there should be 7 engineers for your project. Since you are going spend money on it, you can expect great maintenance.

3. Do not launch it until its 100% - 120% ready!
There's a new thing every day! So user's only check things out once. So make sure once a user uses your product, he will scream about it. That will do the marketing for you!

I wrote the ugliest truth in short. Hope I helped someone.

  • Like you said, it's truth, not the ugliest, it's the real truth. All want some fast money, no patience, and when you don't have patience, you in most cases are doing wrong thing.

They're also the people that your so-called "development firms" outsource their contracted work to.

I completely agree with this post. Everyone wants to be rich but no one wants to take the risk of hiring a proper software firm.

    a waist of time!

I have been doing $xx,xxx a month online, by selling what is already selling.

No need to start from scratch. Reverse engineer the stuff that is already working.

You have about a 0.0000001% chance of creating the next apple, or next facebook, leave that for a bored uni kid.
create a product that sells, that will take you at least 24 hours, sometimes 48 hours, and go and sell the hell out of it.

To create the next big thing, would take months, no....probably years, and by then, you wont eve know if it will work.

That is why the saying STICK TO WHAT WORKS, is suffice here. Hope it helps.

    cheers.
