Ebook and Membership site-How to get started

Hello

I want to have my own ebook and membership site. I am not doing anything with make money online. Here are the requirements:

-My membership is going to be dealing with ''girly and pretty'' so I need to be able to customize the colors, fonts, etc.
-I can setup a wordpress successfully, add in some basic code and customize. I can set up a domain with hosting. I can set up a PPV campaign and I use CPVlab and TrafficVance.(No point in stating that, just saying it to point out that I am not too technically challenged lol)

I heard that you can use microsoft word for ebooks and convert it to pdf.I have done that before for university projects, but I want to hear if there are any disputes to doing that.

What do I use to build a membership site?

No problem with converting MS Word to pdf. Just print as a pdf and you're good to go.

For a free Wordpress membership site, you can use s2member which is a plugin.

The free version has a limit of 4 membership levels plus one "level 0" open to the public if you want...so plan out your content delivery beforehand.

There's a learning curve, as there always is, but once you figure it out you can set up a membership site in under an hour.

Make sure you grab a security plugin like Wordfence as well.

I use Optimizepress 1 for the theme, but you could use anything. Twenty fourteen had a number of nice customization plugins to make it easy to change around; maybe by now Twenty fifteen has mods like that.

Don't be overwhelmed...in any new field, you have to learn new terms and methods. If you plan on making more than one membership site, this will really pay off for you.

s2Member is good. I use it too. Still, I found it not too user-friendly for non-coders. It took me a while. For coders, it's a non-issue. Others may have had a different experience--good for you! Just saying.

Just be careful that what you choose doesn't need christmas tree ornaments hung on it.

For instance, you can get some decent-looking themes for free. But they require plugins and they kindly recommend these once you install the theme.

A little later on, there's an update to the plugin. And guess what? To update, you must register and pay for the plugin! :-DDD

    Pretty nasty bait and switch.

So now you either have to live with this annoying "Hey you have to update this!" warning on your dashboard, or pay for the privilege of using the 'free' theme with an up-to-date plugin.

Also, many theme recommendation sites try to come across and impartial. They rank well in search results (eg. "best free wordpress responsive theme"). But the truth is they are leadgen or affiliate marketing pieces, and are not at all impartial.

I am not saying this about the blog post above. It looked OK from my glance at it...I have to go out now but will review in further detail later. I was glad to see more free options, though.

I'm sure someone mentioned this above, but from what I understand you can make some pretty awesome membership sites using Click Funnels.

Hey, I just did this and this is my experience.
    You need:
    1. A membership site-oriented theme. These sorts of themes make it easy for your members to navigate the members area. I was going to go with Optimize Press but ended up choosing Thrive Themes since they have a new Apprentice feature built into some of their themes and it looks pretty good. It's not totally customizable but it's decent enough - you can do up your site "pretty and girl" with pictures and of course, the logo.

    2. A membership plugin. I went with s2member originally 'cause I read that they were good and the Pro option is pretty cheap but this does NOT integrate easily with Clickbank. There are a bunch of hoops you have to go through which isn't really that bad EXCEPT if it produces an error, it will take forever to sort it out.
I spent almost a freaking week trying to figure out these error codes and support wasn't helpful. I ended up reading through the support forums and questions and realized lots of people had the same exact issue and there was no clear solution for it. This was total hell - it's a simple CB integration, it shouldn't take DAYS.
Anyway, I scrapped s2member and got Wishlist, which costs more than double but took no longer than 10 minutes to set up. That time (and headache) saved is SOOOOO worth it. Wish I'd done it to begin with.

Just my 2 cents - with the 2 above, you can get setup and running in an hour or so, granted you have all your product information already. Avoid my mistake and don't waste valuable time on junk software.

    Good luck

    Hello Bubbles88.

There are a few solutions for this. It sounds like you need a basic
membership site script. Here's a free one available that you can use to
create a membership site with login page, members only pages,
registration page and will store your individual users usernames and passwords
in a MySQL database on your hosting account. You can get it here.
    http://php-free-scripts.com

You can also add your own pages to that system, so it's nice if you
have web pages already created that you wish to have "members only"
access to. If you add the locking code to your current pages,
it will lock out anyone that is not logged in through the login page.
Of course they have to be registered first. you can allow free access
or only allow people to register after making a payment.

There is an included "home" index page for selling the memberships
if you want to have a paid membership site. Once members login
they can access the included members only pages, or any pages
you have added of your own. If some one visits one of your
locked pages without being logged in, they will get redirected
to the login page. There is a link on the login page to "register now"
for anyone landing on the login page that is not a member.
That link will take them back to the sales page for your memberships.

I have a lot of custom membership sites, but they can all be built
with this simple free php script. I am always glad to help too if
you have questions about starting a membership site.
Feel free to PM me anytime.

    I hope that helps.
Have a great day toward your online success !

    Yours truly,
    Jeff Noyes
