Are YouTube videos, like this one, a viable way to build my email list?

I have uploaded YouTube videos before. Some of them got significant traffic.
But here I am trying to build an email list for the first time and I am using new animation software to create the video. It is also a brand new YouTube account.

I am sure there are people on Warrior Forum that know a lot more about YouTube than I do.

At the end of the video I link to a free eBook offer for people who join my newsletter. I am using YouTube annotations for that. Is that the right/optimal way to do it?

What do you think about the quality of the animation and sound? I am pretty sure I could get a bit better at it if a made a few more videos.

Could I get feedback on the YouTube and general SEO of the video?

I can 100% vouch that YouTube videos can build you a massive list.

Using in-video annotations and strong call to actions are crucial.

Learning to optimize your video for keywords with youtube and google. Having a call of action maybe a couple of times throughout your video. Put your landing page down in the description..

Mastering video is definitely the way to go.

I won't say that we've "mastered" it by any stretch
the imagination but we do receive a fair number
of compliments on the videos we produce.

Our blog has shifted from word based to video
based with just a few sentences describing the
    video.

I personally do not care for the video you have
here because it does not "grab" me.

It almost seems like the content and animations
are not really connected and telling the same
    story at the same time.

I think you would do better if you were in the
video speaking to me directly and the using
less animation and only at key focus points.

Just one man's opinion of course... if there was
only one way to do it, all the videos would be
    identical.

i agree that there is more than one way to kin a cat, however, it would be more effective if you were to combine the calls to action with relevant video.

Maybe I can address that with a summary at the end of the video.

The animation is very nice, too nice, in my opinion.
I got distracted by it and failed to capture most of the important points that you are explaining on the video.

I would have your face in the video talking. I think your video is borderline "video-article" - which you will get banned for. Show these people who you are. I had some crazy comments on 1 video I created. So funny that it made me laugh - but the comments were positive and they liked the video. Consider it.

I would have made the title a little bit longer such as:

The key to getting a lot of traffic to your video is to get your video to show up in the main Google search results for a keyword phrase that gets a lot of searches. Of course, you need to create a quality video that gets tons of likes and a high average view time to achieve this goal.
