Many Websites on one Hosting Account (One IP)

Hello,

Today I posted a question that seemed to be a little difficult to answer, but I think this one might be a little easier.

I have about 50 domains on one hosting account and my host has told me that all the domains are on one IP right.

Now I am in the process of making a few new websites and I need them to be as successful as possible. So the question is, by having all of my websites on one IP will it heart their rankings?

Is it better to use a number of different hosts in order to get a few IP addresses and spread my sites?

Some feed back and comments from owner who have large website empires will be appreciated.

    Hi Oscar,

    I have the same questions because I have seen my sites doesnt rank as well on one hosting account as apposed to sites with their own hosting.

    I might be imagining it and would like to hear what other people's experiences are.

    If the are all linked together than maybe this could cause your links to not be as valuable but if they are in different niches and not linked together I don't see how it could possibly be a problem.

    I have a ton of sites on 1 IP and can get them to rank with no problems most of the time. When I can't it is usually due to inadequate keyword research or slacking off on the promotion.

      This is the type of input we need for this question, experience with your sites.

      I would not be linking my sites so that should not be a problem then.

    It only becomes an issue if you interlink them or try to get them to rank on the same keyword

    It may not be a problem for promotion, but if you ever get punished by Google, the IP address will matter because they may punish all websites on that domain.

    Google "google punish for sites on same ip" to see what I mean.

      I've been hearing people say that google black lists IP's for years but have never seen 1 example of it. Hosting companies have thousands of different customers on the same IP. Google know this, they penalize the domain, not the IP.

    I think this used to happen in the adsense heyday when everyone was using those spammy site builders but now it must be one of those myths that floats around forums like this.

    My reasoning is that many people host on shared accounts - probably most websites use a shared IP, right? In most of the cases you are sharing the IP with people you don't even know, so if Joe Schmoe gets punished by Google, will everyone that shares his IP get punished?

    But, what I could see happening is that if you have a bunch of sites on the same IP that is against Google TOS for some reason (maybe build wit a spammy site builder if they even still exist) and Goog finds one of them, they might have it in their algorithm to look at all the site on that IP for footprints that mean it is another spammy site.

    So, if the OP doesn't plan to build spammy site, then I think he has no worries.

    I think the issue would be creating several websites in the same IP that are all identical. Having all your duplicate sites trying to conquer the first page of your keywords or you just change the keywords.

    Don't interlink your sites if it's not relevant and don't create sites with nothing but affiliate products (Like BANS). As far as I know, Google don't ban the IP, they ban the domain and those that it link to and is own by you and look spammy.

    I have different sites on and only a few (BANS) are banned, the rest are safe and sound...

    Some say that it can cause a problem if one of the sites on the IP
    is a "bad site" in the eyes of google.

    Like get rich quick scheme and MLM sites.

      Having multiple sites in the same IP does not matter to google.
      When you purchase a shared hosting account, you are sharing your ip on the same server with all the other accounts hosted on the same physical server.
      So, having different sites in the same IP, should not bother you but...
      - If you get a lot of traffic your hosting will probably ask you to upgrade.
      - If you are building autoblogs, try not to post more than 2-3 posts a day and randomize the postings. If you are using autoblogged plugin, do not use the "copy local thumbnails" feature that requires a lot of bandwidth.
      - DO NOT interlink all your sites in the same server, it looks weird make it look natural

      Otherwise you should be safe.
      I have dozens of accounts with dozens of autoblogs on them and I am ranking and being indexed.
      I coach people on autoblogging and building SEO empires of sites every day and they do exactly the same and they rank pretty well too.
