Kind of a redundant question. You should ALWAYS be building your List whether you have 1 subscriber or 10,000.

And in meantime you should be developing earnings while building it

That means have a quality funnel that maximizes conversions all the way through.

The idea of "earning while you build" is to have a funnel with offers that convert well enough to cover costs of traffic.

If you buy a $100 solo ad or pay $100 in PPC and your funnel returns $175 then you are earning while building your list.

A lot of people, especially new people stick up a simple opt-in with freebie and end up paying for every sign up.

Spend $100 on traffic at 40% conversion and you are paying $2.50 for each opt-in.

Thanks for this answer because it was kind of what I was looking for. By you saying having a top notch funnel connected to high converting offer makes great sense. Now I just need to figure out how to get a great funnel.

This assumes that you're paying $1 per click or lead (which you didn't mention), correct?

Two things about this example:

1- There are lots of places where you can get targeted traffic for much less than $1/lead . . . some skilled marketers have figured out how to get targeted traffic for $0.01/lead. Yes, the market you're in will have a great deal to do with the going rate for targeted leads.

2- You're assuming that you're not getting income from the opt-ins. I would suggest that it is very possible to get income from new opt-ins . . . and if you sell just 1 item at $100 (or ten items at $10) you will have covered the cost of your ad and gotten all your opt-ins without further expense.

  Yes, I realized after I posted that I was simplifying and leaving a few numbers out but I didn't bother to fix it because the principle is the same.
  
  So paying $1 per click at 40% conversion = $2.50 per lead.
  100 clicks would cost $100 and get 40 subs.
  1000 clicks would cost $1,000 and get 400 subs.
  
  You can get clicks for less than a dollar so you will pay less per lead.
  
  Paying 50c per click would cut the cost-per-lead in half. 1000 clicks = $500 @ 40% = 400 subs = $1.25 for each sub.
  
  But the idea is the same. If you are paying per click and not tweaking your funnel to cover the costs, then you are paying a net-cost for each list sign-up.
  
  The idea of "earning while building" is to build and tweak your funnel to try and cover outlays for traffic and clicks.
  
  I wasn't assuming you get no conversions, I was comparing a funnel maximized for conversions to a funnel with no conversions.
  
  As you said a $100 offer at 1% conversion would cover the cost of $1 per click.
  
  Pay less than $1 per click and that same funnel will return a profit. (Assuming the cheaper cost for similar converting traffic)

  Set up a simple but very effective funnel. Grab a lead magnet and have the thank you page be monetized with ppl offers. Do the same thing with the welcome email you send them them. Do the same thing with the download page you send them.

Yes, build your list. WE all started one day.... and start sending people great emails...

1st email - great information
2nd email - offer a product for sale
3rd email - great information
4th email - offer a product for sale
...

That will get you started... Later you can test if you want to give out more great info or not... But it's a just a quick start for you there...

You could monetize your thank you page with PPL offers (Pay Per Lead) and again your first email with the same, if you offer a freebie to build your list, but I think you should try to build buyers list instead selling your own product maybe for only $1... buyer is a buyer...

Always build a list while concurrently getting sales. A good sales funnel will help develop a list for you as customers learn about and eventually buy your product.

The best method for this is to use an opt-in page as the first gateway for all your traffic. This will allow you to capture the contact information of your traffic when they enter your site.

Hi,

List Building is one of the 5 important cog in the business wheel.

Furthermore, list building or lead-gen, is what drives the entire system.

It turns prospects into audience.

Your audience (email list), is your cash cow. Treat it with respect and keep building rapport.

I suggest that you find a successful marketer, opt-in into his funnel, and learn what you can about the flow of the funnel.

And then, apply what you learn to your business.
