Do You Sell on your Personal Blog? Newbie Rant

I have been tossing this idea around in my head all day wondering if I want to clog my personal blog with some affiliate links or links to landing pages I make for certain products. I would of course only do links to products in the same category of things I write about.

I am just getting started and actually my 'mentor' has been Gatorwade . I know that doing things his way (sort of a one week marketing approach) works. He assures me to hang in there for 3 months following his plan. I guess I'm just a usual eager beginner who wants to see results.

So I probably need to just focus on the plan at hand, but I can't help but toss the ideas around in my head!

Has anyone here done the one week article marketing approach? How quickly did you see results? I have just started figuring out how to get the 'gold mine' keywords, around 100 google searches daily and I can rank in the top 10.. That's exciting, but I'm still seeing zero sales.

I have made atleast one sell from a band new niche blog. The site and blog was created last month on about july 6th and has since then generated about 1k visitors around 200 of those visitors where from a small teaser ppc campaign. Any how to my suuprise I did generate one sale from a blog post out of the 15 or so I have made. How ever I only use the blog to bring people in I give them free information pertaining to the niche and encourging them to go to the home page where they would then have a chance to buy another product. If they are not interested in the product on the blog they will more then likely view the on on my main page. However if they do not I still have adsense to bail me out. As you may hear from many you can not monetize an adsense blog to sell products how ever if you do it like this it is extremely easy to do.

I will target only the high paying keywords for most of the blog. Then say every 4th or 5th post I would switch it up to a product post encluding a link to the products sales page. Then afew days later I write another adsense post targeting again a highly profitable keyword set of say 5 total keywords. I have done as few as 2 keywords but those get very little traffic other then traffic already coming into the site. So yes it is possible to sell directly from the blog. However if you are trying to build an adiance base you may want to stick with what you are doing now first. Readers do not like a drastic change such as selling directly from the blog. However if you make the information worth while and build it up right at the end telling them to look at a specific product you could work it in that way. Another way is if you write a specific keyword pertaining to the product simply embed a link into that keyword and every time you say that keyword. This way either they are going to finish reading your post or they found may have found what they are looking for with that particular keyword congradulations you just made a sale posibly

    Is your traffic targeted?

    Are those keywords 'buying' keywords?

How much traffic are you getting?

Focus on targeted traffic for the product you are promoting.

I think it really depends on what market your in. On my blog for example, i would not sell directly on there, i just use the blog to build relationships. But if i was to promote something directly on there, i'd most likely make it into a review of some sort then offer the link to the product.

    Hope that helps.

I think it's wise to stick with your 3-month plan. I'm always weary of 'instant gratification' methods unless of course, there's proof in the pudding -- which is more often than not absent. So I guess what I'm sying is at this point; time and effort are your most precious commodites. Fortunately, both are on your side.

    All the best,

    Your blog is your home...

Would you invite friends to your home and attempt to make them feel better about
themselves by the time they left your house or...
would you try selling them stuff.

First way, they might come back, possibly even enjoy your content, opt in
to something special you giveaway for free... Then you can email market to them
    or whatever you wish.

Second way... if it was you, would you go back a second time...

Thanx for this advice Rob. That makes a lot of sense to me.

I certainly do not want to ruin my credibility or ruin relationships through trying to sell my followers too much on my blog.

Do you still think it would be okay to link to some information or products on the sidebar? Perhaps link to another blog that talks just of my IM ventures? I personally like to read other's adventures in IM and what they are doing and how they are seeing results, so I was thinking of having either this on my current blog or have a seperate one for ths purpose. What do you think?
