As most of you know, Website speed test can be used to test the speed of your website and how fast it loads.

Funny, but try the test a few times in a row and you'll see that it gives different load times. How can that be ?

Directly related to that, anyone know who the fastest webhost is, since google considers this factor. My webhost namecheap is quite good, but just checking. Also head that trafficplanet is good, but haven't tried it yet. I guess it depends partly on whether or not you have shared hosting or a private server ? If that is the case, who is the best provider ?

Have a great Thanksgiving for those in Canada.

Thanks for your comments.

This entirely depends on the load of "their" systems at the time in addition to the load on the servers hosting your website. Unfortunately, Pingdom frequently gives results that vary so much. I'd recommend GTMetrix in addition to using Pingdom. there's a few others. Test the site using multiple ones, then compare the results to come up with an average.

Okay - thank you Kingfish85. I guess the other question is : how much does it matter to google search results to speed up your site ?

There are a variety of factors which determine the speed of your connections to and from a server to your client/browser.

We can get speeds from China to our Chicago server as low as 0.7 seconds or as high as 20 seconds... why? It depends on the DNS route taken at the time...

I use China as an extreme example of fluctuation, normally we run at about a second for loads from China overall, the fluctuation in this case being caused by China's DNS routing and the alternate routes taken by web traffic as nodes are overloaded.

Now for normal traffic we see ranges of 0.2 to 0.8 seconds on average on our Nginx, OPCache, Memcached servers with SSDs.

This is the same for our shared or our VPS platforms.

Look for networks with 1Gbps vs 100mbps connections as some providers are still using... yikes!

Sure you can spend a lot more and get super high bandwidth connections over 1Gbps, however it is only needed if you are running streaming videos and other high bandwidth applications, not for normal web sites under traffic load.

    Just my two bits.
