Dumb Blogging Question...

I should know how to do this but don't...

On my blog, my posts are displayed at full-length on the index page. Under Settings > Reading I selected "Summary" and still it's displaying posts at full length...

Where is the setting that summarizes posts on the index page?

    You could try:

Open your theme folder, and open your index.php file with a text editor (notepad)

Find the_content text there, and replace it with the_excerpt.

      Thanks for the tip

Hmmm... I don't like editing PHP. lol... I'm not a very technical guy.

Is this how everyone makes their index page summarize posts?

Im not sure if everyone does, there are summary plugins you can google.

In "playing" with Wordpress I have used the above. You can copy n Paste the .php code to a notepad file before you do anything, so if it does go belly up, you can re-edit and copy paste it back. Im sure WP has a undo feature in there too.

    Assumes you're using Wordpress...

Put your cursor where you want the post to be split.

    Click the "Split" button:

    Hope this helps,

    Brian

That refers ONLY to the RSS feeds... (if you take a closer look at it)

As for your question, you already got several solutions
    - editing the template file(s)
    - using the built-in "more" function
    - using plugins

    Good luck!

Thanks everybody. I ended up using the Plugin Rob suggested. Works like a charm... and it took the Technorati tags off the index page, which is cool.

One of the coolest things about Wordpress is there are usually quite a few ways to go about the same thing depending on how exactly you want it to work for you.

Cool suggestions all the way around!
