If you send direct traffic to any affiliate offer then, success will be rare. Moreover, this is not how internet marketing works.

Looks like you need a mentor/coach. But for now, let me just give you the basics.

1. You need a valuable ebook/product/information you can give away for free.
2. Setup an account with Aweber (or your auto-responder of choice)
3. Setup a capture page that will allow you to collect an email address in exchange for your freebie.
4. Send traffic to that page. (free or paid, just be sure it's your target audience)
5. As you build your email list, be sure to email them at least 3-5 times a week. (daily if possible)
6. Most of these emails need to be delivering value, not pitching them offers.
7. About once a week, send them a product you truly believe will help them. Be sure you are presenting the product as a solution to their problems. You want to sell the "solution", not the product.
8. Repeat, Build list bigger, build it every dang day, offer tons of value, build that relationship strong with your subscribers.

There is a ton of information on affiliate marketing here on the forum. The search function will help you a lot also. Find yourself a good book on affiliate marketing and immerse yourself with it. After you've learned some things, test the techniques out for yourself to see if they work for you. And at the end of the day once you get serious and committed... find affiliate programs that offer recurring monthly commissions - so that you can earn more money from each customers over and over again.

I don't know if there is a perfect guildine but let me ask you this: Did you find a great product that you were excited about promoting or were you promoting whatever showed up at top of clickbank marketplace? I think there are good products out there that need to be linked to customers, but they aren't the typical top products...you have to dig for them and maybe even chat with the product owner on certain books.
