Prototype Creation for Crowd Funding

I am just wondering if anyone has created a prototype for a crowd funding campaign here before? I have a product in mind that I would like to create a prototype for. I have excellent technical skills so I don't mind learning CAD etc. I have a few questions regarding prototype creation. Its an outdoor product for the adventurous type.

1. What software should I look at creating a mock-up in? What is the most widely accepted? The product will consist of aluminium & plastic with some moving parts.
2. Where can I find someone to create a prototype?
3. How can I protect my idea?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Point 3

In crowdfunding you can't protect it.
It will be out and open in to the blue.

So make sure you make it first and use the crowdfunding to develop it better and get it in the market, if it is just an idea, don't put it there,
I have friends who browse crowdfunding websites every day just to see if they can find ideas

if they see it is just an idea and the idea is good, they start making it.

If the idea is easy to make, the bring it themselves on the market.

You can pay people to create prototypes on freelance sites such as UpWork.

Thanks for the help that is good to know.

From what I have researched its all about the build up prior to launching on the crowdfunding platform. Try to get backers for day one. However first step is creating this prototype. I think I might go down the eLance/Upwork route to save time.

Patent it first. I have my doubts about safeguarding a good idea on a crowdfunding site. For example, wonder why they filed bankruptcy? https://www.quirky.com/

Interesting. I just found an interview with Ben Kaufman the CEO of Quirky as to why it failed. Their business model didn't support the massive up front costs for producing products for 50,000 stores. You can check it out here: Ben Kaufman is surprisingly open about why Quirky struggled
