Safelist marketing to generate leads

Has anyone tried marketing through a safelist, like safelister.com, or safelistbuilder.com, or any others. Are these a good source of free advertising and generating leads or are they a waste of time?

2 years ago I tried it. These were my results:

    0 leads! 0 sales!

i decided to investigate so I put myself on a mailing list. I recieved about 3000 emails each day. It then became clear to me why I wasn't getting any leads or sales. I just couldn't cope with that many emails staring me in the face. In the end I didn't open any.

Some people claim they are effective but my testing proved otherwise.

Interesting and controversial. I've done a test last year and posted the results here:

      The Safelist Experiment

The main problem with safelist advertising is the awful amount of time it takes for very poor results. If you spend the same time writing good articles you'll be better off.

I have used safelists in the past. But the claim that you are sending your emails to targeted prospects is a little suspect. These people are targeted because they have agreed to receive or possibly "read" your emails. Personnally I read a few of the emails the majority I simply deleted to clear out my inbox. Good copy writing may get your email opened but when you get a few hundred emails in a day the chance of having your great headline seen is slim.

I think it may be a waste to spend time earning credits or spend money buying credits to send emails to people who probably won't look at them.

What time? It takes me about 10 minutes a day to send and my results are fairly good.

They are targeted. Most people want to learn how to get traffic, build a list and make money. Focus on one of them and you can see some good results.

Umm. Other people are earning credits too. Not just you. So they are also looking at them.

Safelists and list builder networks like The List Auction (which are safelists on steroids, so to speak) do work well for me.

I tend to get 15-20+ leads every 2 to 3 days that I send out to my rolodex of safelists and list builders. That is about 200 extra leads per month and 2400 extra subscribers per year.

I send out an offer for a free traffic report or list building report and that works pretty well because people who are using these sites are looking for more traffic and subscribers.
