    Witch door will you choose?

Well it no really matters any more.

You're making a classic mistake most newbies (and many oldies) make when it comes to solving the "Which Niche should I Focus On" question.

Instead of focusing on what the niche can do for you -- focus on what you can do for the niche.

      For example ...
      • Which can you add the most value to ... based on your skills, knowledge, experience or passion.
      • What unique twist, approach or result can you offer no one has done yet or done as well.
      • What negative, limitation or disadvantage can you eliminate to make the niche easier to use, buy or enjoy for your target prospects.
If you can't do, find, create or discover the answer to the above questions,
      "Don't Go Into That Niche".
(Unless you like wasting time and money).

You can't get better advice then The Niche Man has given. You need introspection inside you not outside in the niche. Your passion can give you a great success so go inside you and get the answer what your passion is. The answer you find is definitely your niche.

  • go to Google and do a search for each topic and see if there are a lot of forums and websites for that subject. In your search results, see if there are a lot of paid ads - which means people are spending money in that niche. They wouldn't be paying for an ad if not making money.
Look at some of those forums and see how active they are. You want a niche with lots of traffic flow. That means there is plenty of room for you to make a profit.

Apply the box-in method. Work around how much value you can provide to potential prospects. You will gain authority as an expert. Alternative you can always hire an expert to guide you through the process. Ultimately you just need to be 'enjoying' what you do, because if you don't - it will be a big lost in the long run.

Whatever niche you jump into, CONTENT IS KEY!

    Andrew,

Part of your problem is that you're thinking too broadly. Fitness, money, games, girls all have high competition because they are broad markets, not specific niches.

As you drill down within a broad market looking for specific problems and desires that people in the market have in common, you begin to notice that there are patterns or recurring themes to those market needs.

The deeper you dig, the more specific become the needs and the less competition you will find. Even deeply niched topics have enough prospects and fans that a business can be created around addressing the needs of that group.

And here's the real benefit of catering to a very deep and specific audience: you have a pool of prospects that are seeking the same solution to a common problem. As you provide value to these prospects and help them with your paid solution, your marketing and nurturing of prospects can be focused to the extreme - everyone wants what you have to offer.

So how do you find such a group of like-minded prospects in a broader market? Simple.

You do market research to identify common problems and needs in the broader market that aren't being met . . . or that could be solved in a better, faster, less expensive, or in an easier way.

The Niche Man above has given you some great advice. The way you can add value is discovered by doing this research so you verify where these gaps or holes in currently available products and services might be. How else will you find out what is lacking in the marketplace? You don't really know until you look and dig and investigate what's out there.

All of this niche discovery is so that you can sell into current market demand. Typically, if you try to create demand for your own product or service you will fail because you don't have the resources to make inroads against those who are already established in the marketplace.

But if you can find existing demand, and then sell a better solution to that demand, you will have a winner.

The very best to you in your new business,

    Steve

Choose what you know or would like to know what you can teach...

I met someone who has a blog on personal development, but hasn't read but 1 book on the subject.

In his personal life he is an avid outdoors man... He rides bikes, hikes, climbs mountains, fishes, and hunts...

Why on earth would he have a personal development blog when he knows so much about the outdoors.

I told him to have an outdoors blog and connect with others who love what he loves and help them through his blog.

He didn't think any money was in it and stuck with his personal development blog.

I just checked it has 3 post on it

I'll give you my 2 cents for what is worth...

Competitive niches usually take much longer and need more money to monetize... now this is just with my own personal experience. I said this because I just started one small weird blog, just for fun, and it's quickly making a few dollars just from adsense. I haven't done much other that post articles here and there. Now, keep in mind that this blog has a very specific audience that is not really tapped into.

    And the best part?

I can get FB traffic and other forms of traffic for cents. This is great because I can quickly build my list for very little money. Try building your list with FB ads for "internet marketing" or related high value keywords/niches and it's gonna cost you quite a bit. FB clicks in marketing, for an U.S. audience usually go anywhere from $.60 to $1.00 for me anyways.

Everything takes time. At the end of the day you have to be involved in a niche that you are passionate about, and one that you can put you face in front of, such as in making videos - if you can't put yourself out there... it becomes a lot more harder.

Anyways, this is all from personal experience. Good luck.

Choose "girls" niche and go deeply with sub niches. Master it, then you can expand from there. The other niches will eventually direct to a "girls" niche. It's the best niche you can start with and be happy while exploring any opportunities inside it. Good luck.

Think of it this way...you are about to embark on a journey that will take you on a 5+ year ride of your life.

You are analyzing the markets based on what you ARE and KNOW today...that's only your starting point.

When you start a business you set out on a path to serve your marketplace, to continually expand your understanding, relationship and offerings to them as you both go forward together.

I would do the following (based on where you are today)

    1. Nail the 1 or 2 high-level areas you feel strongest about and are willing to commit to working over the next 3-5 years. By the way - I would leave IM as a secondary choice until you have built out one of the other areas unless you already bring specific skills to the table. You will naturally build knowledge as you grow your other business and definitely can evolve in that space, you will be much more effective when you do it based on a brand of strength and knowledge rather than entering that niche first.

    2. Dig into the top 1 or 2 (Let's say for the moment they are Fitness and PD). You must go much deeper and discover pockets of desire - desire for what? Desire to be, have, do or become something they are not - in other words - transform toward something they really aspire to be or avoid something they really DON'T want to be. You do this based on a combination of knowledge about your market, watching what people are saying and doing in your market, products that are selling versus those that aren't and testing...this will get you to a very specific sub-niche to kick things off

    3. When you have the specific sub-niche identified, then you want to identify your unique differentiation (unique perceived value) that you will bring to the table. That could be product differentiation, branding, your format or teaching method or all three.

It all starts with looking at your business as a BUSINESS and not as a short-term opportunity.

When you change to that perspective, you'll find you look differently at all aspects of setting up your business - you are in this to build a strong Enterprise not a single product or website.

    Niche man nailed it!

I also agree with something Chris Chicas said above also...

It's easier if you are marketing something you are comfortable with, and to a degree that you believe in enough to defends it's value, benefits, or overall function.

You can create a 'pen name' or several and write in different niches...sure.

The hard part is; if you build an audience pretending to be a fat chick selling weight loss products and reach any real level of success... It's gonna be hard to answer the call (so to speak) especially, if you're a dude with a raspy smokers voice!

So I do agree that while you can literally be or become a 'player' in any niche from dropping ads and making sales... To think like an authority will require more transparency, and most likely require you to put yourself out there, as Chris stated.

Edit: Personally, I think for most just dropping ads, building lists, and making sales is enough... So, the 1st option is generally faster, and easier.

The 2nd - being or becoming an authority is much more difficult in my opinion, as you need to think ahead, plan ahead, and be prepared to serve your (dare I say)tribe with a greater transparency.

I am still struggling with this, as I need money. So option one = faster money. But, option #2 is long-term relationship building, and is (again in my opinion) more of a business approach then that of churning faster cash by way of responsive marketing.

You need to know which holds greater importance to you!

You can’t pick a niche just because you like it. Don’t get me wrong, liking your niche is a very good thing, but you also have to know it’s going to make you money.

The last thing you want is to spend a lot of time and effort building an affiliate website only to find that there aren’t many profitable products you can promote.

So that’s where you should start: Find a niche that’s already full of profitable products, so you know it’s possible to make money there.
