Instead of giving away a free ebook for an opt in, lets say the first product I want to promote is an ebook on click bank.

This product has a video presentation as its sales page that gives a decent amount of info on the topic and gives away 1 unknown secret.

For my "freebie" can I use this video? For example, enter your email address to watch a 10 minute presentation that reveals the truth about... plus 1 weird unknown tip on how to...... etc

Then in my first email I thank them for signing up and provide them with a link to the presentation.

Is doing this a good idea, or does not work that well?

Lots of people do this. In fact, many people prefer this because they fell that it eliminates the "freebie seekers" and "tire kickers" from their lists.

Personally, I've never done it that is. I've always given away something of value first. I guess you would call it a "freebie."

However, as long as the presentation is good and the content or tip that it discusses is a good one that people will find useful, I see no reason why this wouldn't work for you.

You should make sure the product owner is OK with you doing this since you're using his copyright material.

If permission is gained, I say "test and track." Try out your idea and see if it works better than other methods. It's the only way to be sure that you are optimizing your offers.

Selling isn't this tough. I personally would stick to the proven model of simple freebie, then email promotion. Any reason why you want to switch things up and try the way you suggested? Are you making sales on Clickbank right now using the simple freebie then email follow-up approach?

I am getting ready to start a new list. In the past I have built a few very small lists with a few hundred people each and made a clickbank sale here and there, but nothing reliable.

I just figured I would try something different for the opt in this time around..
