How can I promote my banner design services efficiently?

Hi all fellow warriors.

I have a banner design website (you can check my sig if you want) and was wondering how I can promote it efficiently. I've been doing designs for more than 12 years now but I got to admit that internet marketing is not my strong point.

I've tried the free ones like form posting and blog commenting... the paid ones like facebook marketing and some ad networks using PPC but didn't give me that much returns.

So I'm hoping the experienced marketers can help me out and let me know which marketing strategy would work best in my type of business.

I appreciate all the help and comments.

    When you tried Facebook, PPC, and other ad networks... WHO were you targeting? How did you manage to get clients in the past? Do you have an email newsletter?

    Hi Randall. With facebook and other ad networks, I set a number of keywords related to internet marketing and advertising since my site is promoting banner ad design services... I tested CPM and PPC to see which works but it came to a point where I would need to increase my bid (especially on FB), where it is already beyond my budget...

    It didn't convert well, so I'd like to ask for some guidance here so I will not burn money like I did before. I know that spending can equate to learning new things... but if I can lessen the spending part that would be great

    I managed to get clients through forums like this and some referrals from the existing ones.

    I currently don't have a newsletter or mailing list yet..... I guess I need to get started on that, right?
