Successful Local Websites

I have been thinking of making a website that pretty much focuses on a local geographic area, like Miami for example.

Does anyone know of any successful local websites in your area that you can post the url to?

All I can think of is a restaurant reviews website or some type of local business directory. There has to be some cool concepts out there??? Throw some ideas out.

    Local web sites for what?

Furniture, dating, news, jobs, food, community events, construction?

There are millions of local websites online, but knowing what you're intending to make your web site about will help us to give you examples that might be valuable to you.

Your question is phrased so vaguely that it's hard to know just what you're looking for.

One of our local papers runs an annual "best of" supplement, where they ask readers to nominate their favorite business in about three dozen different categories, from "best HVAC" to "best wings" to "coldest beer", etc. Readers get a chance to vote, and the winners are announced in another supplement distributed through the paper and local chambers of commerce.

I can't point you to a URL, because they run it as a print supplement to sell papers.

Maybe there's an opportunity for you in there somewhere...

Yes my local paper has something similar and turned into sort of its own property/brand.

I was just trying to brainstorm for some ideas. I would like to see successful websites that are sort of unique to a city. See if there are any opportunities to duplicate their success in different locations. As an example, maybe a city has a really great local restaurant review website, would like to see what they are doing well to get ahead of places like Yelp. Another example, maybe a city has a really popular "things to do" website. Just looking for ideas of successful websites that cater to one small geographic area.

Local can be very successful with little traffic and the right business model behind it. SEO Bournemouth - SEO Services Bournemouth - Expert Company & Agency this site is local to me and has expanded to around four cities around the original town. They make millions and the keyword is not even competitive.
