Default Let's Talk Membership Sites...

Hi Warriors

Membership sites seem to be the hot topic now. And I'm preparing to dive into my first membership site. In fact I've created my first month of content and nearly completed the salespage.

Let's discuss some creative and tried and tested simple ways to get and retain more members.

From my primitive education in observing others launching membership sites, a few ways I've seen people get more members:

1. Offer a competition on their blog. Such as - "submit your best weight loss tip" and get a free membership. (Obviously for weight loss memberships).

2. Offer a WSO with a special price per month. Obviously only applicable to "make money" membership sites.

3. Offer a $1 14 day trial period to get people just to test. Many will like the content and stay subscribed, many will just not bother to cancel and continue paying their installments.

I know these are very obvious techniques, so would those more experienced in running membership sites care to share their tips on getting more members, and also retaining more members.

Thanks,
James

Hey James,

One of the best things you can do is to build in some sort of "pain of disconnect" - the member will loose out if they cancel.

Think of web hosting- its getting easier but changing hosts used to be a pain, or before number portability on your cell phone. When you changed carriers you lost your phone number and had to get the new one to all your friends again.
Facebook is a good modern example- if you have your content uploaded and all your connections made, your not gonna move to another site, too much hassle.
