Why do people buy but not use the products?

I've got a theory that I'll share once 15 people chime in but I'd like to get some thoughts as to why people send hundreds or thousands of dollars on how to products but never put them into action?

So why have you not taken action with products you've bought or why do you think others don't?

Most people just get caught up in the hype with product launches. The see the screen shots of earnings and think o yes that is exactly the product am looking for.

By the time they buy it and to put it to use, there is another product launch with "another amazing" product. Because the don't want to feel left out, the take out their credit cards once more and the cycle goes on and on!

I think one of the big problems with people buying products and not implementing is time it takes to implement. Most of the products that you need to implement consist of tedious tasks that take time. Simple solution for this is to outsource it. I know people who will buy a product, and send it to their outsourcers and say "implement it". That way it gets done.

I think the big thing is people just like to see what's going on.

I buy stuff all the time that I don't use and know I probably won't use it even before I buy it. I just like to see what others are up to and to see whether or not it will fit into what I'm already doing.

It is quite simple actually. People are attracted by the sales pages that promise the world for doing nothing. Then when they see the product and what actually has to be done they say forget about that and move on to another product.

Because people buy for emotional reasons.

And it's the buying of the product, NOT the implementation of it, that satisfies that emotional need.

People don't realize that there really are not that many secrets. They think that the next product they buy will have the one missing piece they've been waiting for that will make huge success come very easily.

A lot of people will buy a program, realize that it will take some effort and then buy the next one, hoping that it will be the easy one.

Many people just like to day dream about success and will not do any of the work it takes to achieve it. I think that some people view buying and reading ebooks as taking action. It's clearly not. You need to actually implement the strategies presented in the books. Simply reading them is not going to pay the bills.

Speaking for myself, I will buy a product that I plan to use and implement later on. Usually I don't have the time to review it when I purchase, but later on I will look at it. As mentioned above, outsourcing would be a solution, but many people, myself included, may not have the cash to outsource.

Other times, I purchase just to see how it works, and will do a very quick review and either put it in my to do list, or scrap it.

    Lack of understanding.

Most products have a big handwave in them where if you don't know the missing piece, the system doesn't work.

People don't see the hole, but as they look over the process, they know it's there. So they scratch their heads, thinking "everyone must already know this, or it would be in here" - and then they don't ask, because they're afraid of looking stupid.

For instance, I have no damn clue how to get traffic. I can write like nobody's business; I have a good speaking voice, a good video presence, I'm even a not-so-shabby musician. I can make a pretty damn good product. I can build web sites from bottom to top, write a pretty decent sales letter, absolutely everything that goes on the server for a product launch - I can do it.

But I have absolutely no idea how to get people to give a damn.

Which is why I'm writing other people's stuff, and not making money off it myself. And that's fine; I make decent enough money, and I love talking to all these different people, working in all these different niches, seeing all these different approaches.

But all the same... I wish I knew how to get traffic.

Hope, or the audacity of it. People buy looking for something that will help them do things easier. But then once they buy something they usually find out that it will still take some work to get it put together and in place so they can use it. That's when the inthusiasm dwindles.Mike Webb

Some people do not research deep enough and buy stuff that they do not need. Some simply buy to get the thrill, and more others buy just to be in the know of the latest in the market.

I have a tight budget, so I am very selective in what i buy. I do due diligence to research the product thoroughly before i buy. Once i buy an item or an ebook, i would try to fully utilise it.

I call it the something shiny syndrome. Unfortunately, I am a member. Heck, I might even be the president of this club. I just love to learn and help others. I am always looking for a new challenge. If it is tedious, routine, or simple I have a hard time staying focused on it. Thus, it is very hard for me to stick with anything long enough to actually implement.

I have been working on this issue for a while now and I am getting better. I like the idea of outsourcing and it would make more since than buying another product that I never implement. I will have to look into it. I always thought it would be too expensive to outsource, but looking back I wasted way too much time and money buying new products, but going no where with them. So outsourcing would have been cheaper in the long run and most likely made me money.

I have been forcing myself to post some blogs and articles and I actually finished creating a product just this weekend. It was a struggle as I kept seeing new products I wanted to try instead. This project had started to lose its appeal. I had figured out the code and got it working so developing a website and trying to promote it just seems boring as it is not as cool as it was before I new I could get it working.

Unfortunately, that is where the money is made. However, I am committed to giving this a fair try though. So I am trying to get traffic to my site and get some affiliates to promote it. My last signature link is something shiny that almost made me not finish my product this weekend. It was due to all the ideas it gave me. I just might have to look at outsourcing some of the ideas that this free e-book gave me.

Time will tell though if I am able to get a grip on my purchasing products and never implementing.

Thanks for the topic it really hit home and came at a great time. This is something I just recently identified as a major problem and I have been working hard to resolve.

I wish everyone the best with their online endeavors and I am very interested in how this thread plays out.

I don't think there is just one reason, it's different for different people. Many get sucked in by the promise of easy profits, then realize there is real work involved and start looking for something easier again.

Others truly want to implement it and don't mind the hard work, but they feel overwhelmed because all this information is shoved in their face without a step-by-step getting started action plan that helps keep the tasks broken down into bite-sized manageable tasks.

Then there are those who plan to implement it, but are already working long hours in their business and struggle to find the time to read or implement the advice.

I have bought many products and did not take action on them because:

When I was reading the sale letter of amost products they explained the process more easily as it possible to take action and get results.
I mean I read something in salesletters and saw something different from them in the products.
For example take care about this:
    www.Pluginprofitsite.com/main-27508
When you read the process you feel its as easy as playing a trivial game, but when you register you see its hard to be successful.
I think if sellers design more honest sales pages its better for buyer and seller too.

Here is my theory: Modern society has instilled in us a sense that everythign should be provided to us...and fast. We have fast food, fast computers, fast cars, fast internet, the truth is that fast service follows us everywhere we go...except when it comes to money. People get stoked up about the offers of fast, easy money and the allure of getting rich over night. When they buy a product that offers fast money on autopilot they feel that it is exactly what they have been looking for, until they purchase it and realize that the promise of an autopilot system isn't a false one rather one that has to be preceded by hard work and long hours of setup. Many people simply don't understand the work that goes into a succesful business.

It may also come down to procrastination and frustration...I think we've all been there

  • Because there's a difference between a money-making scheme and setting up a business according to a plan. Most info-products are geared towards some money-making scheme. Those who buy them seldom take the trouble to make a plan for implementing their grand scheme.

If you buy products that don't fit into a current plan you have already implemented, you're most likely to let those products collect digital dust on your hard drive...

I think it's the nature of the beast that hype sells and that once a product is hyped then sold, the ensuing reality sets in and that reality is...

95 out of 100 products are useless.

But then that's a relative thing, they may not be useless to a complete newbie, but more often than not, experience IMers buy a product like an ebook and it has no discernibly useful information and on it goes into the trash

For me it's been a matter of time.

Some things I bought because I knew they were very useful and I was going to want them later, even if I couldn't get to them immediately. Some I bought because I got a bit carried away with the sales letter. Some I bought because I was still trying to find my focus and business model but realized later that this wasn't part of it and the refund date had passed.

Mostly, I just overestimate how much I can learn and do at once.

I think it's mostly because of hope. People aren't buying products, they're buying hope in a box (or even just downloadable hope). As long as that product sits there, there is still hope. They tell themselves that if they wanted to, they could consume the product and get the results they want.

But a part of them thinks that if they fail, then that hope dies. So they don't ever consume it. It's easier (emotionally) to never really give it a shot, because that way the hope is still alive.

One reason is that many people outright lie in their sales pages ...

MAKE BIG MONEY FAST WITHOUT LIFTING YOUR LITTLE FINGER

in big red letters. They overhype and underdeliver.

Another reason is that many are looking for a product which allows you to:

MAKE BIG MONEY FAST WITHOUT LIFTING YOUR LITTLE FINGER

and in reality, there's no such animal. When they find that they actually have to do something, they are off to the next big thing.

I think I might be the odd one out reading the replies to the posts so far - I do buy and download a lot of products, but I am using it for research to be honest. I did give some "step-by-step" programs a go when I first got interested in IM, but I didn't get the results promised and after a while I did get discouraged. Then I had one of those "AHA" moments and realized that something in all of the products I have on my hard drive attracted me as a buyer for some reason, and so I decided to use the method, not the product in my search for results online.

I haven't got there yet - I freely admit that - but I know a lot more now than I used to and my pile of books read is now bigger than the unread pile so that is a positive thing in itself. I did go through a phase where I was suffering from information overload so now I make sure I take action every day to promote my business, my products and to create new ones - sooner or later I will have the internet that saturated with my stuff people will have to buy

Most people have a 'wait' problem.

The problem as was mentioned earlier is that todays' society is all about pushing buttons and ... Presto! Instant whatever.

Think about it. You want a meal and don't want to wait for it... Nuke it. In 30-60 seconds you're eating.

Want to change the channel on t.v.? Pick up the remote and press a button.

Want to get someone on the telephone but they are not answering? Text them.

Don't want to stand in line at the bank to withdraw funds? Go to an ATM.

Want to find out something without investing time in a library? Google it.

Many of the things we use today are designed to provide instant gratification and it's this mentality that most MMO sales copy caters to. The funny thing about it is that regardless of how overused this tactic is... it never grows old.

It will continue to generate income for those who use it and take away income from those who don't.

      Crazy huh?

      Cheers,

Tim, I'll post my answer and then go back and see what others had to say.

Most of the products I acquire that fall into that category fit into future plans. In other words, I have a project in mind when I buy, but the timing isn't right yet (other things to finish, etc.). When the time does come, research will dictate that the project die on the drawing board. Or the product is still waiting its turn. Or it no longer interests me. Even outside circumstances can play a role...

For example, I've purchased a lot of AdSense information. Most of that information became useless the day some schmuck got me banned from the program because I was getting his sites shut down for stealing my material. Except in the general sense that applies to YPN, etc., that information is now useless to me.

Bottom line, I never buy this type of product just to buy something (that's what tackle shops are for). I always have a plan. Sometimes the plans don't work out.

I call it "The rising of the psychic power".
The Fire of "accomplishing your goals" ascends as a result of a temporary weakening of the energy of people. This is why so many awakenings states take place under great stress and the desire to succeed online is one of them. When the energy reaches this area it may energize the brain and speed up patterns of thought, insight, and association that leads us to the buying button,

People need to succeed is merging with the images that a good copywriter implants throughout the sales letters, both physical images that can be seen by the naked eye and
psychological/imagery ones, that the buyer only will see in his mind which i call "The hidden point of lights", those are the point of lights that the buyer would love them to be in his life.

It is this secret force that when liberated brings us to the heights of self esteem, confidence in our ability to be in that same place we want to be in.

In this particular state of mind, consciousness isn't a strong factor that control our acts anymore, that's the point that leads people to click the buying button, and by just doing that, they already fulfilled most of their "temporary willingness" to succeed just by buying factor.

They feel they are already on their way to success and most of them instead of taking action at this crucial point in order to complete the success process just enjoying that feeling that brought them to the decision of buying, they feel that they already did the biggest step forward

After several days or even hours, that high energy they felt before just drop down to their "knees" and then, when they reopen their mail box and read about a new launch or a product this exact same process begins. This is the vicious circle of their life, which is much stronger in internet marketing because of it's fast rhythm.

people are basically in a constant search of fulfilling a need when in order to succeed, people must realize that their basic need is the paradox that is keeping them from success

The alchemy way is the source of transformation.
By understanding "The alchemy way" for recharging the "buying state" energy which is the exact energy of success when it re channeled. however, maintaining a state of frustration, and perterbability will result in recycling the "negative buying process" and achieving nothing..

    so.. my Alchemy advice is..
Drink a cold glass of water , Try to revive the imagery that guided you to buy, Visualize it AGAIN .. and it will come. Now it's the exact time to take action, do not open your new emails at least until you'll take the first step in the program you just bought. EVEN if it doesn't look as promising as it was in your eyes Now then when you bought it. You must count on your intuitions, the same ones that brought you to the buying decision. Do not worry, they won't fail you!

Take action now and if it won't work to your expectations after you've tried to implement what's needed, Then, but only then, drop it. BUT, the fact that you started the program and the steps that you took will ensure that next time you'll have more control on your acts, chances are that impulses won't have such a control on you for future decisions.

I think that some people get frustrated with the learning curve. Some of the stuff that is written out there is not written from the perspective of the beginner. I hate to say it but, most folks need to have things dumbed down a bit to grasp all of the concepts.

Also, a step by step appraoch in some of the ebooks would be good too. If anyone has ever read a Friends of Ed computer book knows what I am talking about. They tend to break things down step-by-step. If ebook writers did the same it would be awesome.

This is exactly my experience, I've bought many ebooks and systems, but in each one there will be a point at which a new concept is introduced and my brain comes to a screeching halt.

Then by the time that I've investigated and learnt what the new concept is all about I've lost the thread and either have to start all over again or (more likely) get distracted by something new.

Sometimes reading several different writers take on the same subject builds a fuller picture, what one person glosses over because they take it for granted that everyone knows, another will go into detail - and another piece slots into place.

If you're starting from scratch you can't hope to understand the whole of Internet Marketing and what is possible on line. The first idea you come across might not be for you, or it is too advanced and you have to lay the ground work first.

But though it may seem that some products are not used there's usually something in them that will be useful later on.

For me, it's usually fear. For example, I recently bought an excellent Warrior's WSO on Ghostwriting - it was excellent - exactly what I wanted and needed. I started off with a bang. Then it got to the part about selling and I froze. I've been frozen ever since. I know I can do this. I've even passed the point of registering some really good domain names, getting my website set up and posting some sample articles.

I know my work is good, I know I 'should' be able to earn a decent income doing this, I know there is a need for this service...

    BUT...

What if I can't really do this properly? What if no one likes my work? What if they like my work but don't want to pay for it? What if....

And there it stops. The course even covers this 'fear' aspect, but I'm still stopped cold in my tracks. I guess I'd better make use of the private consultation that was part of this offer to see if I can get over this hurdle.

I think the other part, for me anyway, is the traffic problem. With bazillions of websites out there, how on earth can I ever expect to get traffic to mine - especially when it's a new site, especially when I'm a great unknown (at least I'm great at something!) and on and on it goes.

So I read all the posts about taking action. I buckle down and take action. Then I choke.

    But tomorrow......

I do not believe it can be boiled down to just one item. It is a combination of things that cause people to buy and not used. Many of them have already been mentioned on here.

      1. People just are looking for new information. Believe it or not some people want to keep up with knew offers and just know what is out there. Most of these type of people already have money and are making in internet marketing. Therefore they love to see what others are saying so they jump on it.

      2. Some people are looking for a way to make money that fits their style. I believe alot of people just want to make some cash in a way the fits them without having to try to learn alot of new things in order to do it. I used to be an ebay powerseller making at least 1000 a week and then ebay shut me down and since then I have been searching for a way to make money online. (with little success).

      3. They dont know where to start. They get a guide and it tells them to build a blog but they dont know how, then it tells them to write a bunch of articles but it does not tell them that it will take awhile to get there articles accepted, then it tells them to do keyword research and they spend hours trying to figure this out to eventually find out they can spend another 100 a month to have a good keyword research tool. Folks the list gos on and on. Most of the sales letters on even the offers forum are hype, you buy the product and it is not quite what the sale letter said.

      4. Information overload
I have so much information on making money since coming here I am lost. I don't want to shell out a few hundred bucks just to try to do something. I have lost my job and have only 200 dollars to my name. I have two kids and a wife and have no clue what I am going to do. I have spent easily 12 hours a day trying to find something I could do for free and make money. I thought CPA would be it but I have no clue.

If anyone wants to coach me for free I am all in though I have no money.

I am sure there are many more reasons these are off the top of my head.

I would say a lot of people buy products and never get round to using them. It's like men who buy gadgets and don;t really find a use for them. It's all down to taking action.

Sometimes it's down to great sales pages... you just HAVE to buy the product!

I have lots of software that I haven't used yet. I have Stompernet DVD's that I haven't watched yet. This is mainly down to not having the time to use these products as I always seem to be busy with other tasks.

I just like to have these tools in my collection so if or when I need them, they are there. I should make more of an effort though to utilise some of this redundant software etc.... I may be leaving money on the table by not doing so... Like many people!
