I'm pretty good at editing movie/play scripts...how can I make money from this skill?

So, I'm an actor and I've found that I'm good at editing scripts. Now, I also write and ghostwriting is something I may also be into, but I am focusing here on editing the scripts.

I've found I'm good at it and I just naturally do it anyways. Not only do I fix formatting and grammatical issues, but I am also very good at keeping a story's flow and making it consistent.

How can I make money utilizing this skill by helping screenwriters and playwrights? Can people make a living off of this, or at least some decent cash?

You don't. My advice is never get in bed with anyone when it involves intellectual property unless you are very sure of what kind of person they are. Been doing this for years. I worked with writers and producers and even good relationships can go sour quickly. My advice is find a small teem to make movies and do it with a 5 finger discount. only real way to make it in Hollywood. I have worked with the biggest names in hollywood so I have been around the block. After your done making the film and it looks good take it to the American film market. if its good enough you can walk out with cash in hand. Also keep in mind their is a market for B rated movies. A movie that is produced for 60 k can be sold for 600k on the international market. just make sure your content doesn't offend any international markets with American political BS and propaganda. Don't hold tight to the rights of your first movie just sell it make another as soon as its sold. the point is if you want to get in to Hollywood you kill your first born. FYI most major writers who do well on their films are often commissioned to do rewrites or revisions of other films. So I just gave you the clue on how you can do revisions for a living your welcome.

The problem is the ideas that I have on my own I can't usually produce at a small cost, as many of my ideas are grand in scope. Think gang related stuff, disasters, space, war. None of these topics come with a small price tag when it comes to production. Sure, I can definitely hire unknown actors for a small cost but that still won't be anywhere near the money I'd need to actually bring my ideas to LIFE!!

I'm thinking a "Good Will Hunting" approach might be better. Damon and Affleck wrote the script and pitched it at a lower price, along with the condition that they star in it. They got a studio to agree and the rest is history.

I'm not talking about becoming a star, that's a whole different can of worms. I'm merely referring to making like 50 to 100 bucks or so editing scripts for people and companies here and there. Maybe for more money, but I'm not sure what rates would be for that sort of thing.

At that price point, you should have no trouble being as busy as you want to be.

Look for forums, FB groups, etc. aimed at wannabe screen writers. Contribute to the group, and let it be known that you edit scripts.

Facebook ads aimed specifically at people who label themselves as film writers, screen writers, film makers, etc. should get you some results.

Same for other PPC (Adwords, etc.), targeting specifically people searching for editors, as well as info on how to edit scripts. Many of them will be looking for DIY info, but there will also be others who have found the DIY and are afraid of or unwilling to DIY.

It is really a good skill. It is no longer an issue to earn money, if you have this kind of skill. Today there are many freelancing market place, where you can do work. Such as if you search in the Upwork by typing your "Video Editing" in the Find Job section, you will found a ton of job available. Then you have to read the description which work you will be able to do. Then you need to make a BID on that project. I am sure if you will be gain in this field, if you have good skill. Firstly you need to do work at a cheap rate then after getting a few feedback, you will increase your demand. Thanks a lot.

    Don't Fiverr.

You should check freelancers sites such Freelancer or Upwork, there're a lot of demand on what you can offer. If you do things right, you will find long-term clients but it's hard to get started.

If you were a client, you will hire someone with tons of feedback and positive results or someone with a new account where you can't see any feedback or positive results? the answer is simple.

That's why you need to be focus and offer some good stuff to start with, something like 50% off for your fist 10 clients, so you can have some feedback, positive results and confidence to find more clients.

Never beg for a job, if you look desperate no one will hire you. Show what you can do, if you can solve problems, people will hire you for sure. You don't need to spend money on these sites to get started, but maybe in some point you will since you can send limited proposals with the free account.

Not taking action is the only thing that is holding you up. Try to start with fixed price jobs, then you can move to hour based jobs, good luck my friend!.

If you have questions about it, please contact me and I'll help you!

    Best Regards,
    Nicolas.
