Linking to CB products in articles

I have been doing some research on a specific niche I am building a site for and I have noticed a large number of articles at EZA/GA etc have a direct link to a CB product in the bio/resource box. The article writers are simply cloaking/redirecting these links so they look like genuine links to genuine sites. I was under the impression that affiliate links weren't allowed at most of the big article directories. Yet it seems a lot of people are doing this. Is this allowed? Or are the article directories not onto this practice? My plan with this particular niche was always to link to my site where the CB products/links would be but now I'm wondering if it might be better in some cases to cut out the middle man and link directly to them not only in this niche, but in others too if so many other people are doing it. What are your thoughts? Do you do this?

Edit: Upon further research, it doesn't seem like many do this, but some do. I don't think it's something I'll do myself, especially as I am building a site for this purpose.

    Hey there,

    I have had several articles turned down as a result of direct linking before. One time, I submitted a bunch with cloaked links within them and about 1/3 of them were rejected siting my links as an issue.

    So, from my conclusion based on that, I think luck has a little to do with it. If you're lucky to have your articles screened by someone who's not in the mood for work that particular time (or for some reason the person missed taking note of your link) then you might get away with it. I think that explains why you see only a few with direct or cloaked links to some extent. Btw, after editing, my articles were swiftly accepted.
