Monetization Options For An Unusual Niche

I recently acquired a script for an 'anonymous confessions' site. For those who are unfamiliar, it's exactly what it sounds like: a site where people can make anonymous confessions.

This isn't my site, but it will give you an idea of how it works:

online anonymous confessions

My problem, though, is I can't figure out how to monetize it. Obviously, I could put up banner ads and sign up forms to get them on a mailing list, but what niches would be even remotely related?

The visitors could be literally any demographic, making it even harder to pin down. I've racked my brain for a few days now, but I can't think of any commonalities between all these people other than the fact that they all have a secret they want to get off their chest (and we all do, of course).

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Warriors and Warriorettes!

    Uhhh...

Off the top of my head, you know, other than test, would be like - reverse phone look up stuff and find out if someone's cheating angles.

    I mean, if you're confessing...

    You're probably paranoid, right?

It's that whole mentality - "hey, if they're gonna cheat on me (essentially because I have trust issues that I can't personally accept or acknowledge)... then I'm gonna do it first! So *I* don't get hurt!"

So maybe test that kind of an offer.

    Other than that...

Look at what the the celebrity news and gossip rag websites are doing, for inspiration.

    That's all I got.

    I would say on keywords.

Write a script that understands about what the article is. Most of the time you can only scan the title.

Make a database of advertisers and add keywords to this database.

If there is a match, you show that advertisement.

In the beginning, it will take some work, but in time your keyword and advertisement base will grow and it will work good.

  • That's a great idea, allegrandro. Like what Google Ads does. I could just show ads based on the category, maybe.

Definitely something to look into. Thanks for that suggestion.

As far as the 'cheaters' go, I could post something like Ashley Madison ads. There really aren't all that many cheater confessions, though, compared to all the others.

Most are *much* more serious than an illicit fling. Incest-based confessions seem to be a more common topic than cheating, for instance.

Many of them are just plain funny, too, though.

Bradley, this might just be one of those things that has to run for awhile until you get a feel for what people are posting on your particular confession site.

Since this involves "anonymous" confessions, I'm not sure collecting emails would work. And I'm not sure what you would send them, since most offers that pay would require them to identify themselves, if only to pay.

Maybe collect a bunch of confessions on a given theme, then put the collection on Kindle or something? There used to be a checkstand magazine called "True Confessions" that people bought all the time.

A Kindle or mag could be an excellent idea since I would own the posts. Thanks, John.
