Default .Doc to .Pdf Convertor (That works)?

Hey Warriors,

Im in a little bit of a rut at the moment!

I have two ebooks now that are in circulation but am not hapopy with the conversion of either of them. Frankly they look s*** compared to how i designed them origionally!

Their colours are different
Text is cut up in places
Their alignment is not the same
Some convertors don't keep the hyperlinks

So i need to know what you people use. I do have open office but have a killer template that only works with .doc file extentions and i prefer writing in microsoft office especially with their fonts too.

So any help is highly appreciated as this is something i over looked for a bit too long up until now!

Thanks
Tom Brite

You can try using youconvertit.com as it converts from many file types to many file types and it's free.

I've used it several times, but haven't done a ton of DOC to PDF conversions through it, so give it a try and see how it works for you.

You could download OpenOffice.org and work from there and then convert to PDF.

I also recommend OpenOffice. It's extremely simple, one click of the PDF icon in the toolbar and you're done. Plus it's free http://www.openofficedownload.org

EDIT: You should be able to open and edit your .doc template with OpenOffice

Tom,

I use CutePDF, never had any of the issues you described. Very light program that installs quick and appears as a print option.

Then, if you want to try something really cool with your PDF, take a peek at this video I made. I know your post is about ebooks that you're creating.. but this is a fun thing I do with ebooks I purchase.

I tried that one yesterday but couldn't get the required files to install so just gave up after 20 minutes of downloading different version!

I will try opening my saved file with open office now and see if that will work. But your right open office is so easy to convert it and it actually looks good and right when you convert it too!

Ah thanks for that suggestion (both of you).

Iv heard of cutepdf before now you mention it and it sounds promising! Will definatly take a look myself!

I also just watched your video, but unfortunatly i do enjoy reading ebooks on my pc and just read them all when every i am waiting for something or need a break. However i tend not to buy huge ones or if i do i just skim read most of it to find the important things!

Thanks everyone

Tom, if you want to I can convert the doc files to pdf files with Acrobat ... normally Acrobat keeps the way you've formatted a word file .

Here's a free online one that I use from time to time in a pinch and it seems to work great:

I like "free" in lots of cases but not when it comes to producing my products, so I use Adobe Distiller.

I have tried quite a few from all the listed printers/converters.

I have a question to all of you that recommended different PDF printers. Tell me which desktop application is able to keep a Word-generated TOC as hyperlinks (preferebly without making it "blue") to the target pages listed in TOC.

In the first half of the year we are supposed to work for the taxman. I think that's a mistake.
Help me to get rid of the taxman ASAP - thanks! (You, too, should make less mistakes!)

This one is awesome - PDF Converter, Convert to PDF Online Free, Document to PDF Conversion Service
It is free plus it changes over the links from your doc to they are clickable in the pdf format.

If you like Word (like me) and don't want to "exit out" or wait for an online converter then there is a solution if you have MS Office 2007. Just install the free addin from Microsoft. (If you google "office 2007 pdf plugin" - it will be at the top of page one) Their plugin only takes a minute or two to install and works perfectly.

But, I am still searching for a free PDF converter for Word 2003 that converts hyperlinks correctly! 99.9% of all free PDF converters do not process all of the links correctly! I have tried all of the free converters mentioned here and so far no luck!
In this case your best bet is to open the doc in Open Office 3 Writer to and output as PDF.

Tom,

After you install this plugin - go to "Save As" and you will see the new PDF feature in the sub-menu -> "PDF - Publish a copy of the document as a PDF file"

This works great - I really did struggle until I found this just recently!
