Should I launch my missionary website or not?

I have been planning to launch a website that sells services to
Christian missionaries. The thing is I am not sure whether missionaries
would be willing to buy the services or not. I have been trying to find
forums where missionaries hang out, so that I can poll them but I can't seem to find
online forums where missionaries gather. That makes me wonder whether I should
go ahead and launch or not. What do you think? Any suggestions or thoughts
on how to handle this?

If you can't find an online forum, there's probably little hope of reaching them online.

Try direct mail. Send them a sales letter. In the mail. Send like 200 letters.

You'll find out quick if they're interested in buying.

EDIT: It would be better to call them or talk to them in person first though.

    Hi
    If i was you,
i would give it a try...

May be there are forums but you
might not come across one yet...

There are always someone out there
that you might not be aware of.
I would launch it, and once you are in
then the doors will start to open and you
will find many ways around it....

I have seen few website where people
hang out and that could be a great
    start for you...

Jump on the websites of your competitors
and start blog hopping or blog commenting,
its another great way to drive traffic but
don't go in there to promote and rather
    just communicate with others....

    Good luck my friend...

Thanks for the encouragement. It won't hurt to try. I was having second thoughts about it
but now I think I will go ahead.

If you can't find a market - who are you marketing to? I'd do more research before starting to work on something that may not have potential.

I have seen few website where people
hang out and that could be a great
        start for you...
Sounds "good" - but everyone has seen websites where people hang out... are they potential buyers for YOUR products?

Jump on the websites of your competitors
Good idea...look for competing sites. Do they exist? If you have products to sell...where are those products currently being sold? Are your "services" aimed at individual missionaries or the organizations that sponsor missionaries? Are others offering a similar "service" - if so, where do they advertise?

If you can't find forums in the niche, go to the top SERP (search engine result page) web sites for your best keywords and see what they have to offer. Maybe they link to niche forums, or portals, or authority sites, or niche blogs, etc. Talk to the owners of these sites and see where they get their viewers. You can also use similarweb.com to see where their traffic comes from. Check out who is posting on their blogs. Contact people in the niche who seem genuinely interested in the subject matter. Ask them where they would go to find niche participants.

Niche research is a process of discovery so you understand where there is demand in any marketplace. Everything starts here. If there is no identifiable demand, move on to something else.

It won't be an easy market to profit from as missionary organisations are more focused on fund raising. That said the likes of fim do spend a great deal.

You are probably better looking at the missionary organisations to see if they have forums or look at generic Christian/Christianity forums and see if they have a missionary section.

What kind of services are you looking to sell to Christian missionaries?

Aww, man, when I read "missionary" I was thinking of something else, lol, sorry for that. I was ready to pull you my credit card =D

Anyways, sounds like your niche could work if you approach people in person... face to face, since congregations have such large numbers that if you are good... you can make quite a good living and help others with your work.

Try it off line first and if it works move on to online. That would be my approach. Keep things simple.

That is a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. Will try it out.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will try and see what I can come up.

Then you don't really want the missionaries themselves. You want the people/organizations that sponsor missionaries. In most cases, that's going to mean churches and their hierarchies.

It doesn't matter how good your aim is if you shoot at the wrong target...

haha! I wonder what you were thinking off.
I was actually thinking of doing it the other way around, try it online and then take it offline.

I have actually found some great leads, thanks to Steve B's suggestions
of checking backlinks of some competing sites. At least I am starting to
have some idea of where my target market hangs out online.

First off, if your seeing a need, figure out how to fill it. I would suggest a mobile app or site so you give the utility of it working just about anywhere there is cell or internet service.
Also a through_the_door sale may or may not be what you want. There's other ways to create a revenue stream other than the direct sale. Since missionaries are sponsored in many cases why not hit the churches up themselves and create a asset coordination system.

Sorry just brainstorming, but I think you have a good idea. And you didn't say the dreaded "I need to do this on Facebook" LOL
