Having a successful subscription-based site

I am moving my site onlinemenudesign dot co to a subscription only site. Currently you can purchase a menu template individually, or have a subscription.

One of my subscribers canceled, but wants to start up again in the future. I get where he's coming from, but I couldn't stay in business if everyone did that!

What are your suggestions for running a successful subscription based site that is a win win for all parties?

When someone cancels, do I keep there files online for them?

TIA

perhaps you could offer a 14-day free trial? you can't really help some people unsubscribing. just so long as there are more people coming in and staying than there are leaving, you're good.

i can see this site working well with a similar pricing structure as say leadpages.net. you have standard pricing, pro and advanced.

My thought exactly cause that is what I would have done myself. Well said Steve

    • What's the reason you want to move to subscription only?
    • Is your current subscription sales more popular than individual purchases?
    • If I'm a business owner why do I need a subscription for menus?
    • Why would a business owner keep changing their prices to justify a subscription?

Currently when you make changes to an existing menu your download price is the same as the original price and there's really no way of adjusting that on the backend. That has been a turn off.

Normally they keep it but they will receive no updates or support

Since you're only offering menus, a subscription model would lead to less money down the road.

Also, it increases resistance to initial sales

Offer free samples which lead to premium upsells

and... oh yeah... BUILD THAT LIST

The money is not in the menus but in the NEEDS of people who need menus

Focus on the dollars further ahead... not the pennies right in front of you.

No don't keep there files. Something Aweber do is if you want to cancel they ask you if you would prefer to suspend the account for a much smaller monthly fee around $5 instead of the hundreds you normally shell out with a large list.
I think that could work out well for you. If people want to cancel and come back offer a holiday or suspension service that costs to keep the files only untill they wish to restart.
