How can I increase visitors engagement on an entertainment/news blog

Hi all,

I operate a local entertainment and news blog and I get about 1000 page views daily. The current means of traffic for now is twitter.

I spend time to ensure that I provide quality information and people get to visit the site but my problem is, people do not comment after reading. I believe that when people begin to comment, it tends to increase the perception of the site.

Sometimes, when I post an engaging question to get them to comment, the comment is usually on twitter. The only time I could get people to comment on the blog was when there was an incentive and I got loads of comments

What can I do to increase the engagement on the site so that people can comment naturally without any form of bribe.

Secondly, what strategy can I adopt and implement just to be different from other blogs like a unique selling point

Thank you

Make it easy, use a FB plugin for comments.

Other option is to reward people for good comments. Pick 3 every month.

the blog should be written in way that it provokes the reader and he will desire to comment. When i see a blog that relates to my real life situation, then i will be more than willing to post or comment about it.

You could put up a striptease video!
      That would get some comments

Write about things that will cause engagement. Write copy that is very compelling and begs to be discussed. If no one is commenting on what you write, then you're not hitting your readers in significant ways. Sometimes controversy will get responses. Sometimes sympathy for a problem will do the trick. Call the readers to take action and see who responds. Let them know that you welcome contrasting opinions.

Since we don't know you or your business how can we suggest what unique selling points you have? This is something you're going to have to figure out!

Post viral things to your twitter followerrs to attempt to get your tweets to go viral.

    go to buzzsumo.com

You can see all of the current viral articles in any industry. Just phrase your tweet like any of the viral articles in the entertainment industry with a link to the story from your site.

You will get TONS of new traffic.

Have other interesting pages you have they can go to, have videos, poll, comment area, pictures, supplemental info.

You can specifically ask them to comment in your post and give a compelling reason. You can also look into plugins or software that provide a better interface for leaving comments. There is also a plugin or software that allows people to comment via Facebook (which I have seen but not yet used) which is easier for individuals as they don't need to fill in a comment form that requires them to fill in their email address and name.

    Make your topics controversial.

Some topics naturally prompt others to partake.

    Controversy creates cash.

    PS:

Also, often it can be of use to "start the discussion yourself", do a little trolling on your own behalf.

    Wish you the best.

Create a fan page, including facebook, instagram, twitter! These will help alot. Some website only depend on these sources but they still make big bank!

    Cheers,
