Creating a content website

I am interested in creating my own website(a content based website that gives tutorials to students in various different topics). Sort of like this type of website AC Waveform and AC Circuit Theory of Sinusoids but with a different design and a number of different topics (when i checked the amount of money this site was potentially making, i was surprised! Around 15k a month.)

Now if i am correct this type of website generates money through picture advertising and also amazon links which they receive commissions off (how effective are these if you have a large audience?)

Where do i start with creating a similar website and how much can it cost me realistically? (i am aiming for a site with a lot of content).

Thanks for any tips and answers, i am really a beginner in these topics

When you say similar website, do you mean one about AC Circuit or electronics or do you have a specific subject in mind?

Where do you get your figures from, the 15k per month?

Yes , they earn income from AdSense (banners on the right side) and product links.

To get started first of all get yourself a hosting account, and create a blog and start filling your blog with articles related to your niche. Read few articles on SEO ( how to choose keywords to get visitors from search engines such as Google).

As for costs .. it all depends on how much work are you willing to put in. Do you want to do all the work yourself? Then you can start with very low budget..

It's very hard to calculate how much you will be earning per 1k visitors, it's more about your monetisation strategy. You can offer some kind of paid newletter or info product to earn extra income (or it can be your primary source of income actually)

SEO is very important in this case, to use the right keywords, etc.

Make sure you reverse engineer their keyword targets and look for weaknesses

You'd be surprised as to how much easy traffic you can get just by following this step.

Don't hit them head on. Find their weakness and build on that.

      Writeaway,

The OP has said he's going to provide content in different topics. If that's the case, I doubt reverse engineering of the site mentioned is going to give him relevant keyword targets as you suggest.

    Hassan,

Typically, but not always, sites that generate revenue through on-site advertising require mega traffic in order to provide a decent income for the owner. Often with Adwords and other similar programs, you will get paid pennies for someone clicking your link and being pushed off your site to an advertiser (not a good thing for a content site).

Even with Amazon links, often the commissions are so small that you really do need a whole bunch of very targeted traffic in order to make a few dollars.

Personally, I like the model of selling your own products on your site best - but at least selling affiliate products - which can give you a much greater commission per sale. Just my opinion since you asked . . .

    The best to you,

    Steve

Hassan, Steve is right. I did this successfully using AdSense and affiliate products for many years and it's not really that hard as long as you use every available SEO tip and trick out there, plus have at least one social media presence to grab targeted traffic and direct them to your site. Plus a lot of patience. There's a rhythm to maintaining a content site, and it's a lovely thing, but the money doesn't come fast. It grows over time.

As for start up costs - I bought a used FrontPage for $77 and signed up with Hostway for some small amount/mo. But that was back in the late 1900's. Now don't that just sound so ancient? Grin

Today there still are deals on web hosting, you can hire a Warrior to set up the site for you for a reasonable price (I just saw a sig by a warrior who will do it for free to build his portfolio), and most hosts offer editing on the fly - Content Management System (CMS) - so you don't have to be a web design maven.

Go for it and have a blast doing it! I sure did.

      - Annie

You can certainly earn a sizable income through Adsense and Amazon, yet if you are solving problems for a large audience, you could also create your own products and sell them for much larger profits later on.

It's an easy site to replicate. I highly doubt it makes $15K.

    Hi Hassan,

If you're the type that likes to learn new stuff, you can learn to create this site yourself quite easily.

It can be created on Wordpress.

There's lots of Wordpress tutorials out there, including ones that show you how to set up affiliate links and banners. I also have a live workshop that would help you (see link in the signature).

If you wanted to hire someone to create this kind of site for you, I'm guessing it would cost you around $300 on upwork.com or freelancer.com. That is just a guess, as I've never hired anyone to create a site for me...

...but it is a very basic website so it shouldn't cost you a lot to get it up and running.

That guestimate does not include the content.

I recommend publishing the content as an ebook or several if you have plenty of content. Each ebook would cover 1 problem with 1 specific solution. Create an ecover, a small sales letter and sell it using 'pay-what-you-want' pricing.

You can still have Amazon affiliate links sprinkled throughout the content.

This is a typical niche site that from the face of it benefits from advertising. the advertising currently is on the right sidebar in the form of Google Adsense and also amazon related products and books. The website does also seem to have an advertiser (possibly paying to be in the sidebar).

To get started please don't make the same mistake as a lot of others. Do not copy someone else site because you hear/find out it makes lots of money.

If the site is making a lot of money then there is a lot of work going into it. Things such as write useful content regularly, traffic generation, and on this site you'll also see they have over 17k+ Facebook fans.

    1. Choose a niche you either have some experience in or at least have an interest in. It will make the journey more enjoyable.

    2. You'll need to get a domain and web hosting and set up your blog.

    3. Start researching and writing content to populate your blog. Initially I like to have between 10-20 blog posts to avoid the blog looking empty.

    4. Ensure you do keyword research. You can also look at your competitors and find keywords they are using you'd like to also target. Remember only target ONE main keyword per article/blog post

    5. If you're new, learn a little about SEO, there lots of free training online, at this forum and even on youtube that'll help you get started.

    6. Set up and add your social media links to the site - initially Facebook is probably a good first choice.

    7. Once you have your website, your social media, and some content, sign up with google adsense, or click bank or JVzoo and find products/advertisers that offer products/services that would be of interest and related to the niche you are writing about. Add carefully selected ads on each of your pages, in the sidebar and just below the header.

    8. Focus on build your traffic.

    9. Finally, don't forget to build a mailing list, by offering something for free, an ebook, video etc... That way you'll capture their name and email, and have the potential to email them offers, tips etc and increase your earnings potential.

Good luck you can do it!

    hi
I think of a strategy to make off page traffic
you can create interest with videos related to your niche market
in your videos and their descriptions include references about your site.
    cheers

The OP has not logged in here since the 8th when he posted his question. I will never understand why someone would start a thraed asking for help/advice and not return to see the answers or participate in the discussion...or answer questions asked.
