Number in domain name

Just wanted your thoughts on having a number in a domain name. I read somewhere that having a number in a domain name is bad practice. I will be selling items specifically for £10, so wanted to know if I should have tenpounds or 10pounds in my domain name. Thanks very much

I have been building websites for 14 years now, my first site and several since have had numbers in them. I have never had a SEO challenge because of those numbers

Thanks for your reply, I guess I'll go with the one that's more visually appealing if SEO isn't a problem. I would think 10pounds in the title rather than tenpounds would be more alluring perhaps. However, some feedback I've got is a number in a domain name looks tacky, although I don't necessarily agree with this.

I would go with tenpounds actually. SEO wise, it's not a problem really.

Also, there are other legit and big businesses that have 247 at the end or 4 for "for", eg lawyers4u.

But then again, it all depends on you. For me personally, I would not go with numbers unless I was building a site for a product that has a number in it, like Diablo 3, Mass Effect 2, etc ...

    Don.

Having a number in your domain would not pause a problem for you. Many do this is when the exact domain they want is taking but still want to reflex the same domain name one way on the other. This is used mostly by niche marketers that build affiliate sites.

    Hope that helps

IMO, it doesn't matter at all.

In my opinion it's not ideal, like .info .co .biz domains and having a hyphen isn't ideal either, but that doesn't mean it can't succeed both with search engines and your audience, if you're offering something legit it will still do well

It's all about the marketing. As long as YOU direct your prospects to your SITE.... why would there ever be an issue with a number being in the domain name? You don't want to make people "remember" your domain name. You WANT to drive people to your site yourself, and lead them to the proper page they need to be on so that you can sell them on whatever product you're selling.

There in nothing wrong with having a number in the domain name as long it reflects something.

No it doesn't matter. What matters is how you want to brand it. If the number makes the domain look better go for it.

Your domain needs to be one word or one set of words. No hyphens and no numbers. It’s hard to verbally communicate a domain name that has a space or a number. When someone hears one of these domains it’s hard to know if a hyphen is required and if the numbers are written out as words or are numeric.

Stick to A-Z and leave other characters alone, no matter how tempting.

There are many people who does not like to use any number in the Domain. One should avoid this practice, if his main intend is to develop site & sell it at high price. Thanks a lot.

      Depends on your marketing media.

If you will be online then either way it does not matter

If you are doing radio, you want the number spelled out as most people type in domains that way.

For example if the radio DJ reads your ad and then says visit:
10 pounds.com for more info the listener will go to the computer and type in
      tenpounds.com

or, buy them both and forward on to the other, just like I do

I wouldn't recommend it unless you can get all of the variations and point them towards your website. The reason becomes especially apparent if you are ever interviewed on a podcast, radio or video as the listeners will not know how to spell your domain name.
