Hello everybody.

So I'm 19 years of age and have worked with technology in a sales role for 2 years.

I have always been passionate about starting my own business and come up with what I believe could be a niche.

I was thinking of a one to one service with people not familiar with technology to tutor them. I have the ability and can make the time if profitable.

What are the negatives?
Will it be profitable?
How much shall I charge?
What possibility of expansion in the future?

I have done small market research and found nobody provides a service like this in my area within the UK.

Thanks in advance.

1on1 in a real life should work out pretty well, but if you're going to do this via videochat, then it could be hard to earn some more money. People who have $ prefer direct contatct rather than digital.

Not so much a negative, but a challenge. You need to rustle up your clients.
      Will it be profitable?
      No idea.
      How much shall I charge?
      What the market will bare.
What possibility of expansion in the future?
      Again, no clue for you.

Sometimes there is a reason for that. Could be there is just not enough demand. Or could be no one else wants to do it.

You say no one provides this service, but are their want ads for people asking for this kind of help?

This business model does extremely well if you can find businesses who will hire you on a retainer.

They pay you a fee each month and can call you to come into their office when they need help.

Obviously, you could set conditions within the contract to stop them calling you for 8 hour tasks everyday.

If you can set up a remote link to their computers, you could probably solve a lot of simple issues remotely.

Technology encompasses a huge array of topics, what exactly do you mean by "technology"?

Make sure there is a DECENT amount of demand for the technology subniche you want to focus on

With that said, the best and CHEAPEST way to promote your business is through Youtube videos.

Using a question and answer (mixed with powerpoint) format.

I guess the best way to find out how it works out for you is to start the business ASAP. Since you are talking about tutoring/consulting, the startup cost is not going to be high.

How much to charge? If you are saying no one is running a similar business in your region, so it would be hard to figure how much to charge. Well, how much are you willing to work for? If you are going to take an hour to tutor a client, how much is your hour worth?

Thank you everyone for your advise. More or less people think this could be a profitable business for me. I'm going to go ahead and advertise and work up a client base. Hopefully I can turn it into a full time business.

Anymore help or advise in getting started, advertising and even how to plan lessons would be fantastic.

  • Best of luck with your business. As long as you feel that your business is going to be profitable and you know you're solving a solution, then you should succeed.

Some libraries provide a service like this for the public. Instead of selling your services as a teacher why not incorporate some kind of product and offer the lessons for free. Its a different way to look at the same problem.

There's probably a good reason why this is.

You're essentially trading time for money - even though it is a business model. With this model, your income is limited to the amount of people that you can sell to/serve in a certain amount of hours. I would pursue a business venture where the money works for YOU and is automated 95%... instead of the other way around.
