Interesting New Addition To Google Page One Results (Does it help YOUR site?)

Saw something interesting in the organic Google search results.... expanded search results options on page that show more than two pages from one website.

Did a video here on my blog showing what I'm seeing:

Google Adds 'Show More Results From' Expanded Search Options - Aug 2009 Video | PotPieGirl.com

Anyone else noticed this? Think it will help your sites, lenses, articles, etc?

    Hi Jennifer!

I know you from Twitter but I think this is the first time on Warrior.

That is an interesting find. I found something interesting this morning.

On LinkedIn I did a search for "Wordpress" in the "People" category. I was pleased that my name came up 3rd. That was in the FF browser. I checked IE and I was nowhere to be found on the first page and more.

Then I asked someone to do that search in LinkedIn on their FF browser. His results were different than mine! Wonder if LinkedIn is giving us a bump for our own searches there.

I've also seen small differences on Google when two people searched the same term. It's not regional because I was testin gwith my friiend who lived a few blocks away. But the difference was very small and not worth thinking about.

I do know that if you're logged in with a google account you will likely have "customized search results" based on your browsing history. I had worked the better part of last weekend on trying to get better placement for a couple URLs. Tuesday morning I was walking on a cloud because a quick search showed them in either 1st or second place.... only to be brought down to earth searching from another machine to find two of them in 3-4th place or so.

When I got back to my machine I did a more extensive logged out/logged in test and my sites were biased higher in the logged in test. I think as I had been working I just used google to find my own page, click the link and copy/paste the url. It (*google) took it as an indication that for me the site was the more relevant result for that search and started pushing it further up the ranks for my logged in profile. The most severe disparity was a page that was ranked about 30 logged out and 2 when I was logged in.

Moral of this story is don't trust what you see when you're logged in to search with a google account. The new "search wiki" could play all sorts of tricks on you.

Unfortunately I can see how a shady SEO could manage to pull the wool over a clients eyes by convincing them that they're number one when in reality they're buried a few pages down.

BTW - I haven't noticed the + sign available for more than 2 pages from a domain on a browser that was not logged in to a google account, it only has shown up for me when I've been in a logged in google account session.

      Avery
