Traditional And Modern Affiliate Marketing

In this post, I am going to talk about traditional and modern affiliate marketing.

When I first got started online full-time, I am pretty much involved in traditional affiliate marketing.

What traditional affiliate marketing is about is you promote digital / information products from online marketplaces like Clickbank, JVZoo, Paydotcom and Warrior Forum.

It can be internet marketing course or other niches like health, wealth and self-development.

What I do is I created a free 5-10 page report from Open Office and Microsoft Word.

Within this report, I compiled a series of 5-10 articles either created from scratch or rewritten from PLR or Private Labels Rights articles in which the author gives you the right to do whatever you want except selling the rights to others to do the same.

Once I completed that report, I designed a squeeze page giving that free report as a bait or reason to get people to optin to my list.

Then upon receiving the report in Thank You Download page, I presented them with a one-time offer of either my product or other people's products I promoted as affiliate.

If they buy, I earned. If they don't buy, I will keep in touch with them with my followup emails providing either free information, one-time offers and other products related to that niche.

However lucrative other marketers made that offer to be, I see one major flaw in that model that most people DON'T see.

And do you know what that major flaw is?

The flaw is -

Unless you are someone of great credibility or aligned with someone of great credibility as your mentor or teacher in your niche, you are not going to make much $.

You can still make a couple of $100 and occasional $1000 each and there.

But you are not going to hit consistent tens of $1000 and even $10K like most gurus proudly proclaimed on salesletters which you and I are pretty familiar with.

Unless you have a huge mailing list.

Of not just subscribers and customers.

But of affiliates and JV partners helping to recommend and promote whatever you buy.

Let me ask you another question.

Do you receive emails from different marketers everyday?

If so, do you open up all the emails, read from top to bottom, click the link to salesletter, go through the entire copy or video and then buy the product?

If your answers are mostly no, you are thinking exactly the same as most people out there.

That is why MOST marketers - especially newbies and even intermediates - are NOT making the $ they want or any at all even if they got a great product and sales funnel.

Having been in this model for 5 and a half years now, I turned to what I now called the new affiliate marketing model in the second half of the year.

It is based upon a 6-figure marketer's business model. He used to make a lot of $ doing this model and now making a lot more $ using the new model which I am going to talk about in the next post.

Sounds like you missed Jordan Belfort's training course in sales.

Yeah, you have no credibility, so just make something up that sounds good.

"I'm the CEO of :your real impressive company name: and I'm an expert digital marketer with :your life span - 18: years of experience and I :insert really impressive sounding information that doesn't actually mean anything but nobody will bother to look into it: and you should buy all my stuff."

Maybe work on the end a bit.

Edit: also, if you're selling digital products and you're not on his website taking notes, you're doing it wrong.

Interesting post, there is one thing I would like to say about receiving emails....

I do receive emails and yes there's many I don't open but then there are emails I do open and very often because I've learned over time quite often, there's a product or training that will help me with my business.

You have to be getting the right kind of person on your list and the time waster freebie seekers off your list.

If you have people on your list who are prepared to invest in their online business and promote the right kind of product to these people you will make sales and many of them.

I don't buy into some of what you say in your post, you do not need a massive list you need the right kind of person on your list, so it's important you learn how to do this and at the same time it's important you learn how to get the freebie seekers off that waste your time and cost you money.

This is what I define as modern affiliate marketing model and have been working on since second half of this year.

It involves promoting things people already want to buy and will buy again and again.

For themselves and their loved ones.

    Such niches involve:

    1. Physical consumer products,

    2. Healthcare

    3. Women stuff as in fashion, makeup and jewellery

    4. Holiday vacations

    5. Cable TV and movie subscription packages

    6. Gifts for special occasions like Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year, Chinese New Year, Valentine Day, Fathers Day, Mothers Day, Teachers Day, Children Day etc.

    7. Office and home furniture

    8. Food and fine dining recipes and discount deals

I will still create a squeeze page but instead of One-Time Offer, I funnelled them into relevant categories of my fully fledged e-commerce store.

I will also create a free gift to be given away.

But instead of a conventional PDF report consisting of 5-10 content articles linking to relevant offer, I created a magazine-style catalogue presenting 3-4 articles and range of best selling products each and every week to my subscribers.

Plus top quality newsletters which is the same as Amazon, Ebay and Sony. Of valuable information and images of relevant products.

Not just best selling products that people want to buy but best deals in which they get more value while paying lesser as compared to say when they buy from offline stores and malls.

The products I am currently promoting using such method are from Amazon, Ali Express and up and rising Commission Factory which is the same as Commission Junction but a lot easier to get approved.

Promotion wise, I leveraged on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter.

For Facebook, I created fanpages with link to my landing page, posted articles and ads regularly.

Below are 3 examples of digital cameras, air purifiers and Amazon kindles catalogues I first applied this model upon.

Nice job, man. Glad that's working for you. Those last few product screenshots look professional.

But to be honest with you, it's the same model. You just changed the look of the media, the message inside, products promoted, etc. It's still traffic to squeeze page and deliver something for free and follow-up.

    Which is a good strategy.

I don't see a huge flaw with your information, other than it's overwhelming, cumbersome to read, and the overall presentation isn't much more than an attempt to re-position and re-package.

The presentation of information needs work. It's not very exciting, doesn't feel new. Actually being new is irrelevant. I think irawr jumping down your throat is little over the top. But that's in his nature. Don't take it personally.

    Also...

You should consider your media. Salesgurus is right. This does read a lot more like a blog post. It's not very personal. That's not why we're here.

  • Digital products still sell. You cannot call it traditional too. It may not work for you but there are still a lot of people earning a decent income from promoting digital products. I have to say that still, the success of promoting digital products depends on the kind of content that you publish on your website and in your newsletters as well as the kind of traffic that you have. You do not have to be a famous affiliate marketer or guru to earn in promoting digital products; instead you just need to target the right people who actually buys and to know what your market wants.

Yep, I disagree with you that Digital Products are not worth pursuing as an Affiliate.

They can definitely big quite lucrative if you know what you are doing.

Plus, I wouldn't call this modern Affiliate Marketing in your second post. There is nothing Modern about it relative to the Age of the Internet
