I am a completely new virgin beginner on selling on the internet.
I should qualify that by stating that I have sold the odd car and other items on ebay but that is about it.
I am intending to make a business from the internet and am delighted that I have found the Warrior Forum.

I have a question for more experienced internetters please:-

I am looking to possibly sell supplements such as nutrition and health supplements.
However, I have heard that supplements should be avoided.
Does anyone have any view on this please ?

Thank you.

If that's what you want to do then stop worrying about what others said.

If I sold supplements the first thing I would do is tell everyone i could selling them sucks, that way I'll kill off 80% of my potential competition.

Just go do it mate, or you'll be one of the warrior forum people that are still here in 2019 asking the same questions.

    Cheers mate

    Profman5,

Only you can make the decision about which market to enter.

I believe that supplements are very competitive and that you will need to spend more on getting traffic in this market (if you're doing paid advertising) than most small niches. There are some very well-healed and well-established businesses that you will most likely go up against in this space.

That's not said to deter you necessarily . . . just to help you understand what you will be facing.

Do you want to do it as an affiliate, i.e. sell other people's supplements and get a cut of the price, or do you want to set up your own website where you sell the supplements themselves?

I think the first option is much easier, not to mention less costly and risky. You can start off by selling supplements from Amazon or other merchants you can find through affiliate platforms like Commission Junction, ShareASale, LinkShare, etc.

If you go on your own, then you'll be faced with difficulties such as finding which supplements sell better than others, crafting compelling presentation pages, and of course, investing a lot of money in a stock of decent supplements.

Steve B's advice above is spot on.

Personally, I am a BIG user of supplements and have generated some decent revenue in lead generation for 3 medium size vitamin manufacturers over the past 18 years but am on the retiring side of my business now. A couple of suggestions:

    1) Sign up for free health newsletters to become familiar with what other vendors are talking about - visit their websites, take notes.

    2) Visit and bookmark various niche focused supplement sites - forget about trying to compete with the big ones like GNC, Swanson Vitamins, Vitamin Shoppe - focus on a targeted set of supplements, i.e., sports, seniors, etc.

    3) Either go with a manufacturer that has private labeling for small amounts of product and/or begin with their company brand but move to private labeling as soon as you can afford it to build your own branding. (I still am in contact with two manufacturers that offer small private labeling and can have them email you their product lines, if you decide to move forward?)

    4) Never, ever, ever, make unsubstantiated health claims about the products - go with what the manufacturer states about them - this is probably the main reason (besides the heavy competition) that people tell you to steer clear. The FDA monitors the web for sites making health claims and this is the fastest and easiest way for you to get shut down and into possible legal trouble.

    5) Buy some health supplements for yourself and family from one of the major companies - note the amount and type of follow up emails you will receive - keep them on file for reference purposes.

    6) Pick a domain name that focuses on the niche you have selected - I have several that were used for my business currently up for sale on Sedo right now but I will not list them here - Sedo.com is a great place to search for domain names as are GoDaddy, NameCheap and other domain registrars and auctions.

Most manufacturers have sales materials that will help you in promoting the products and will also help you design your own when you are ready to make that move.

In regards to the Internet marketing part of the business - I wish that I could tell you what course or WSO would be best for you to follow but I cannot, this is one of the reasons I am moving into retirement. I had great success from 1998 thru about 2008 but with things changing so fast with IM and me getting too old to keep up with it all, I have decided to go into full retirement.

    Hope the above helps.
