What are some "make money ideas" for stay at home mom?

I have a friend that has no interest in learning anything "internet marketing" related, but wants to make a few extra bucks while at home with her kids.

She's not looking to strike it rich. Just something legit that brings in a few bucks.

Can you guys think of any "brain dead" jobs that can be done at home by someone that needs very little training, if any, to do it?

Thanks!

Brad

I see... well, thinking of any "brain dead" jobs is
actually pretty hard for people who use their brains
      to work.

So if she can't do "brain live" work, she might have
to do grunt work instead. And since she's taking care
of kids, that might be out of the question.

So... maybe she'll have to do some learning and
      rejuvenate the "dead brain"?

I dunno, just trying to help.

How many children is she currently caring for, in her home? She could offer her services as a babysitter for one or two additional children.

If she is skillful with laundry duties, she could offer to do some drop off laundry/ironing work.

She might not fit the bill as a Virtual Assistant, if the children are rather young. Too much focus required to take care of the children in order to work on the phone.

If she can take her children along with her, maybe offer to do errand services for the elderly in her local area.

I realize none of these are computer related, but they might work around her current situation and the "brain dead" requirement you mentioned.

    Hi Brad,

Seriously, If she has any skills such as knitting or making crafts she could
use ebay to earn a few bucks. I have a neighbor down the street that sells bead necklaces and hand made Shaw's via ebay.

    Hope that Helps,

    Have a Great Day!

    Hi Brad =)

GPT (Get Paid To) sites are a decent idea in this situation. CashCrate is a good one.

She can make a few extra bucks doing the offers and surveys and then, if she gets a little "hooked" to it and wants to amp it up, there is a multi-tiered referral program where she can make bonuses and a percentage of her referrals earnings.

While not all GPT sites are legit, I can tell you that CashCrate does pay and they have been really straight up. I haven't done a thing with mine for probably two years now and I still get paid from my referrals activities.

GPT sites are an easy way to get your computer to bring some money into the household while allowing her to work on her own schedule. They are also a 'soft' introduction to internet marketing so it gives her the option to just do her thing, or to really run with it.

I did pretty well with GPT sites and I know Amy Bass did really well with them, too.

Just a little tip tho: Make sure she signs up with a 'disposable" email address (like a gmail) and to NOT use her primary email address. The surveys and offers can cause a lot of email and she won't won't her everyday account to get all clogged up.

    Hope that helps =)

Some good ideas might be things that internet markets must do but hate doing, like article submissions, backlink building, forum posting etc. These things don't require any special skills or knowledge, and there must be a lot of demand for that kind of help.

I'm a stay at home Mom. Why wouldn't she want to learn about IM??? She has you willing to show her right? Is she just not wanting to have the learn? It will be so much more profitable for her to put several weeks into learning. No one is going to pay her to be brain dead, kwim? She is going to have to hustle one way or another. The best option I can think of is like above, doing some casual babysitting.

Transcribing is always good if she can type and can be started for free. Writing blog posts and reviews can be fairly non demanding and regular work, if slightly low paid. Another idea is to offer directory and social site submissions and link building services.

Online auctions probably have a low learning curve if you pick the write stuff to sell.

Using squidoo or hubpages is as easy as it gets to IM with stuff.

    Hi Brad,

If she is a native English speaker and has an interest in writing then she could earn a decent amount writing articles. There must be loads of Warriors right here who would love a great writer rather than having to constantly trial and reject mountains of poorly written garbage professing to come from "College English Majors" and the like.

If writing isn't her thing then link building could be a great option - you don't need to learn anything to complete the Paul/Angela type methods as you get a comprehensive workbook telling you exactly where to place the links!

Right when I read the thread title, I immediately thought of the idea of article marketing for others. But it looks like David beat me to it!

I'd recommend something along those lines and look up positions on Elance.com or GetaFreelancer.com. If she proves to people that she could perform their jobs to how they asked, there's a good possibility to receive a consistent workflow from them.

There are a ton of people looking for these types of positions, so I'd tell her to hop on those sites right away!

    Hi Brad,

I think she should find something she's interested in and can get motivated about - perhaps something in her community and start a blog and have people add content - perhaps what's going on in local schools, what charitable things are happening in her community, local sports teams and results etc...

If she keeps her eyes open for opportunities, you can probably help her outsource the creation of a small software app that her visitors would love and pay for.

As long as she feels it's worthwhile - she can do well.

I'd recommend she read "Cash Machine for Life" by Loral Langemeier and see if anything there inspires her. I've sent copies to most of my family and friends and several started micro businesses. She's coming out with a new book in September titled "Put More Cash in Your Pocket" that would also be applicable.

I rarely recommend IM to those who ask about making money, however I always provide info on how to use internet marketing to boost new or existing businesses.

You can also tell her to check out babycenter.com there is a forum/commuity on there for work at home moms.

She could sell avon, scentsy candles, etc.

      Brad,

Work as a voice over on internet marketing videos.

Someone sets up a great marketing video, but thinks they have a boring voice! So they hire someone to do the talking! I don't know about anyone else, but for some reason i am more influenced and trusting of a female voice. (Perhaps i have some deep-rooted psychological issues, but that's for another thread! ).

No training required. You just need a voice, a script and to be a women! Also it will introduce her to IM kinda!

Brad she might do well making simple Squidoo lenses with Amazon modules. The more you have the more you make and it'll offer residual income. She can do separate accounts - for instance, I have a Christmas account - it makes a ton Sept-February but a little all year round.

She could do lenses on specific topics too - like parenting. Anything that sells on Amazon can have a lens about it pretty much and she wouldn't need to learn anything about websites. She can use the modules AND her own Amazon Associates ID.

Here's an example of one of my lenses that makes me about $500 per month during Sept-Feb:

Have her buy a keyword software.(maybe you might know of one to recommend :-))

Then do keyword research for people who don't want to do it themselves or invest in software just yet.

Or do something like this with one of the many tools out there.

      Here's a few programs I've helped "women" make money with;

      1) Appointment Reminder Service - for Doctor, Dentist, Chriopractor, offices. "$30 a day per office". 10 clients = $300/day x 5 = $1500/wk

      2) "Odor Removal Service" - for local Car Dealers to "De-Stink" their trades. Product costs $3 per car...we charge $35/car = $30 per car profit. 10 Cars a day = $300/day x 5 = $1500/wk

      3) "Welcome Magnets" - a Refrigerator Magnet mailed to New Movers. $1.25 per magnet per sponsor. 20 Sponsors = $25 per Magnet x 100 Magnets per Month = $2500/mo

      4) "Employee Discount Cards" - Discount Cards given to employees by their employers as a "Gift". Sponsors pay $295 per 1,000 Cards. 20 Sponsors = $5,900 per 1,000 Cards

      5) "Auto Buyer Thank You Cards" - "Thank You for Buying" Cards sent to Car Buyers, giving them a FREE Oil Change in 30 days (to bring them back to dealership) Car Dealers pay $10 per Card. Depending on how many cars they sell per month. Nowadays, 40/mo average = $400/mo to you. Your cost about $1 per Card = $360/mo x 10 Car Dealers = $3,600/mo

Just a few ideas of things I've done in 30 yrs.

I'm surprised no one has suggested Amazon's Mechanical Turk.

    https://www.mturk.com/mturk/welcome

This is something that Amazon put together that matches up people (your friend) with businesses that are looking for small, often repetitive tasks to be accomplished. The pay is not fantastic -- about 1 cent to 10 cents per task -- but I can see where it would add up if you're a hard worker. Keep in mind that these are usually things that can be done very quickly, if you work efficiently. And it's backed by Amazon, so no worries about whether or not you're going to get paid.

On the flip side, this is a resource that some of you IMers out there might want to use to get various work done in your own businesses.

    Hey Brad!

Ask her what are her talents that she can offer to people for a service, solution to a problem that is where she must start at first. What is she good at or expert at. Then see if there is a market for it or demand online for whatever she can do.

From my own experience my wife was needing extra cash and I told her why don't you try eBay auctions. After I gave her the run down on it and trained her on just a few things.

That is all she does, I can't get her to do nothing else.

What she did was find a hot niche that she can buy locally cheap and sell if for a profit on eBay I am really proud of her. She is paying off her new car and her vacations with it.

But anyway a lot of people can get started with online auctions. Many have including myself.

    I wish her enormous success!

but you wont be home that much.

Can she write well? Doesn't have to be perfect. Like at a high school standard.

If so, then definitely let her in on AssociatedContent.com. Tell he to signup and start writing 400 word articles. (Be sure she checks the exclusive rights to AC box when submitting her article.)

Write a few articles each day on what she likes. She can look at other articles for examples and follow them.

    Pretty simple stuff there

    Write 5 Articles/ Day - Should take 1 1/2 - 2 hours. 5 x $3 = $15.... Thats $450/month.

And if you are worried about whether or not AC actually pays. They really do. I have been paid 10 times from them back then and I have heard they have only gotten better these days.

If it's just a few extra bucks she wants then article marketing would be where I would start. It might be different if, say, she had defined the amount she wanted to earn but, by the sounds of it, it's just a time filler with a little to show for her time.

My sister makes and sells dress jewellery and greetings cards on eBay. She chose these because the materials were so cheap and there was already an active market on eBay. She also has children that she has to be able to work around so this was ideal - just 1-2 hours per day.

I have to say, though, try to persuade her to have a look at IM. See how she feels when she sells her first few affiliate products

    Good luck to her.

    Steve.

Transcribing is much more difficult than it sounds - transcribing just one hour of audio takes approx. four hours of typing.

You would have to look at her skill set first to see what she already knows and take it from there.

Blogging or lens building would probably be a good start, parenting/child related by the sounds of it.

If she likes to get free products, have fun and chat with others online I have a suggestion for her. There would be a little bit of work tracking her free products but it's easy to do. PM me for the link if she is interested.

I don't want to sound redundant, but writing content is always a sure way to make money quickly if you don't want to actually learn IM. Here is a good place to do it as well as Wicked Fire.

It kind of all depends on her salary expectations, you know... content writing is good but definitely not the most profitable thing in the world.

Can you guys think of any "brain dead" jobs that can be done at home by someone that needs very little training, if any, to do it?

    Thanks!

    Aloha Brad:

Your friend probably found a way to create online income but I'll post this for any other mom's, dad's, or ??? And something that requires very little training? Hmmmmm, that's the key, huh?

    1. Here's an old one but if you can find something that can make you a decent profit, then you can just do one auction a day/week. Ebay has tons of shoppers READY TO BUY (no marketing needed) and if she's just a little internet savvy she can learn everything she needs know by checking out eBay's online tutorials. With the "Completed Listings Only" option you can get a great idea on what you'll be able to sell something for before investing money. Since keywords in your titles are important, use this tool: http***://labs.ebay.com/raghavgupta/demoto/to

(Note: remove all "***" in the URL if you want to copy and paste the address in your web browser. I had to do something so it would not show up as links)

    2. Pick a product(s) that she used in the Health, Wealth, or Happiness industry (since a lot of people are interested in it) and join their affiliate program. Join a related forum that allows signatures and create an enticing signature link (one time set up) and her job is to comment and help people out in the forums. I'm sure she would get people to click her affiliate link and hopefully make some commissions. Is that too much internet marketing? Well,....if she wants an actual job where she gets paid a set amount for her work/time, then see the next suggestion.

    3. a)www***.westathome.com
This site allows you to stay at home and work on your own time. Duties vary depending on the projects. Ex:...you may be obtaining, entering and verifying customer information, answering questions, resolving issues, explaining sales features, offering additional products or services, etc.

    b)www***.istockphoto.com
    www***.bigstockphoto.com
    www***.fotosearch.com
    www***.snapvillage.com
Sites like these allow you to sell your digital photographs and make a little passive income. Web designers are always looking for unique images. Is that too techy?

    c)www***.associatedcontent.com
This site pays you for unique articles anywhere from $3-$20 the last time I checked.

    d)www***.clicknwork.com
This site manages a lot of qualified workers (hopefully you will qualify and be in their network) and matches them up with companies that need a task completed. Some jobs will be full-time, some part-time, and some temporary.

    e)http***://PayPerPost.com
If you have a blog, this site will pay you to write about the products, services, or companies you love (if your post gets approved). You are basically giving word of mouth advertising for the companies.

    f)www***.h3.com/howItWorks.html
This site will pay you if you find the right candidate for a specific position. You get a referers reward for finding the right candidate. The minimum referers reward is $5000 and this is so that you get your network involved for hunting down the right candidate. You split the reward with all those that were involved in finding the candidate. Tip: If you post these positions/jobs in forums or classified ads, i.e. craigslist, USFreeAds, etc. you get to keep most or all of the reward!

I'll stop there but I hope that helps some mom or ??? make some money working from home (with their precious pumpkins...kids)

    Hi Brad
I make a great second income selling vintage prints on eBay.
This is so simple anybody can do it and the profit margins are remarkable, you really can source these items for a few dollars and sell for $20, $30, $40 or more if you know where to look (all online)
Check out my step by step guide 'Prints Make Profits' there is a link in my sig.

Is she sorted now Brad, or does she need some more ideas? I do have
something for her, but don't want to publicly post it.

Another possible idea is for her to work with Warriors who purchase
WSOs (let's say), but never carry the plan out for what ever reason.
She could then become expert pretty quickly, and grow from there.
She'd effectively be outsourced to, wuith the right product she'd have
something to apply for herself. Getting paid while she learns.

      Brad,
You didn't mention any talents she has and it does sound like she has an aversion to the computer.

So...can she teach piano lessons? Take on extra babysitting jobs? Dog walking? book keeping for small businesses? Custom sewing?

Wow! Hey thanks for all of the information here. It's become a very good resource not just for stay at home moms but also for beginners to get started. Bookmarking it now..

I don't think I can still add more to what's already here but here's an additional.

    1. Squidoo Lenses - If the person doesn't have a talent for writing then I recommend adding re-written plr contens. just make the content valuable this will help in conversion.

    2. Hubpages

    3. AssociatedContent

    4. Offering service at odesk

    5. Cashcrate

You'll have to work on these things initially but once it's set-up it will provide passive income

    All Success!
