Would you allow YOUR children to market products online?

Would you allow YOUR children to market products online? How about your parents/grandparents?

What advice would you give them starting out and would you help them hand in hand along the way or let them make their own mistakes?

Have your children showed any interest in starting up an online business?

Have you ever got a great niche idea from your children?

Yeah I know I am sitting here reflecting on issues again...

    Hi Netpiddler,

Sure I would allow my children to market products online...if one of them showed the inclination to actually put in the work required, learn what they needed to learn, etc.

In fact, my oldest daughter, son, and my youngest brother have been asking recently what they could do online to start bringing in some "pen money." I always advise them to think about the things they are really interested in, so they'd be working with a subject they were fond of to begin with, and we'll go from there.

My daughter thinks transcription would likely best suit her, but my son and brother...they're looking more toward affiliate marketing stuff.

Advice I'd give starting out? Don't expect miracles...but be neverendingly grateful if one should occur I'd tell them to start with one thing and work on just that until it was complete and profitable, then another, then another.

    Tina

Let me preempt this by saying that I do not have any children but if I did, I would absolutely let them run an Internet Marketing business.

As far as my advice to them goes, I would tell them to think about what they would want to do and then come onto this forum and read how the successful people in that market are doing it and model themselves off of you guys. After all, that is what I am doing. Darn it, now you tricked me into revealing my big secret! Boy you are a sneaky one. I am going to be keeping my eyes on you.

My son started to ask about these eBook things I do and got interested. Now he is learning copywriting as well as the whole process to become an internet marketer in his own right.

My dad got me started in IM in the first place, just this year. I figured it was better than working a "real" job so jumped on it. I still have to have a job but I am slowly making progress.

What age are we talking about? I would definitely help my daughter in anything she wants to do- especially when she has a desire to make money! However, her identity and computer usage would be under very strict guidance.

Not to mention her contact information would be non-existent. It would have to be directed to me and we would take care of things together.

I am talking about teens there - 13-18 or so.

You are right in keeping an eye like a hawk on here when it comes to online stuff. Had a nightmare situation narrowly avoided with my own daughter so I hear ya.

Any other child labor sweat shops out there?

I have every intention of outsourcing work to my children when they're old enough to want an allowance.

Allowance? Nope. We work for our money in this family. Would you like some work?

And as that process goes on, I fully intend to mentor them in running their own business that belongs to them. By the time they go to college, they should have a full-time income running hands-off, and they can study what interests them instead of what might get them a job.

I think that will serve them better in the long run. Of course, I actually have to get my own full-time income kicking online first... what I'm making now really isn't up to my standards... but I'm not worried.

Great replies as usual (what else could I expect)!

      Thanks for the feedback.

Anyone else have 2 cents burning a hole in their pocket and want to chime in on the discussion?

Holy crap - now that is what I am talking about! Nice.

When my son was 14 he was trading the forex market with me. I swear he always came out on top just becuase kids don't have those levels of fear, risk etc. He still plans to trade forex once he hits 18.

My daughter is almost as good at computers than me and has expressed interest in starting something online.

When my boys are old enough, I would absolutely allow them to market online, but I'd make sure to monitor their work so they wouldn't make the mistakes that I have.

I would think blogging would be a great job for a young teen. They're so in the research mode from school, that they could easily write for any niche they had an interest in. (Again, monitored by the parent.)
