Keywords and domain name question

Possibly a silly question here but I'm curious......how much impact would it have on your page rank if you made the keyword you're trying to optimize for the actual domain name of your site? Like for example if you're optimizing for "get your dog to stop barking" and you make the domain name "get-your-dog-to-stop-barking.com". I'd imagine it would be good for seo, but exactly how effective is it? Would it guarantee a top 5 spot in the serp? Or would it still require as much backlinking as it would if it had a different domain name?

I don't think it matters enough to worry about it. Good backlinks and solid SEO on-page will dwarf any effect it may have. If you can't get the exact keywords in a domain name, I wouldn't sweat it.

    Actually...

This is a hidden tactic that has come "back to life" as of recently in the SEO field. Before, this didn't work, because everyone was buying domains and doing this. But for whatever reason, Google has given this a boost in there algorithm and if you own the DIRECT KEYWORDS within the domain, with nothing EXTRA and it's a .com, you'll "starting point" when they index the site will be fairly high.

I've purchased a few premium domains ($50k and $150k) over the last few months. These sites are the direct keyword, with the keywords alone doing over 500,000+ searches a month, and the sites..outta the gate...ranked on the 2nd page of Google. With just a little bit of link love, they were sitting middle of page 1 of Google.

So, to answer your question...yes...it helps

I am sure the domain name matters. I have a few websites that are well optimized and with the keywords in the domain name, and they are doing way better then all the rest.

$150,000 for a domain. Wow, thats impressive figures if I understood it correctly.

In answer to the question, no it wont affect your PAGERANK in anyway but it can greatly help your SERP.

I think the thread has splintered off into different directions now... but in answer to the big money for domains thing, it's definitely worth the investment if the value can be proven. A good website is like real estate in the best area of town. I guy I used to work for leased poker.com for six figures per month! Sounds like HUGE money to people like us, but the amount he was making from that far outweighs the cost so it's all relative I guess

Putting your keywords in your domain certainly helps a lot. I think it's a good start but it won't guarantee a top position in Google.

You will still need to do the on site search engine optimization and have links back to your site.

I have quite a few that are exact keywords that I'm targeting and all are on first page of Google. I just purchase one of James WSO social bookmarking packages after I buy the domain and within a couple of days I'm usually in position #1. I doubt that I would be in position #1 with so little effort if it weren't for the keyword domain name.

Yup - it was just the domain name, there was no website with it. We acquired it a few months ago.
