There are few elements that all successful online marketers have in common and one of it is their Ability to persuade and make more sales.

What other traits do they have?

Some other traits that I can think of (besides what you already mentioned, and I agree with) are :
persistence, curiosity, a love for learning and resourcefullness (being able to find information you need so that you can learn what you need to learn, being able to make connections with others who can help you in some way, etc.)

I would say the ability to accept Failures and even Embrace them to a certain extent.

If you have a mentality of 'steel' that can do this you can really go far.

The fact of the matter is that Failure will come to all of us sooner or later. In one form or another.

It's how you internalize it and work with through it...that will separate the winners from losers

          Problem solving.

I don't care who you are, you're going to run up against obstacles and road blocks in your business. Successful IMers figure out ways to get around those road blocks and continue to move forward in their business.

Other people lose interest in what they're doing and move on to something else that isn't so "hard" when they run up against problems.

Don't people ask questions here on this thread get answers and learn a thing or two? Okay let me rephrase. What makes you a good online marketer?

Definitely agree with the persistence. Being new, I am struggling as most do at first and the temptation in the back of my mind to say 'screw it' is there. But I will without a doubt persist. I think persistence as well as a will to learn and adapt are among the most important things... I'd say they rank even higher than a natural aptitude.

Other things I can think of are -

        work ethic
        risk tolerance
        control of emotions
        focus

Yes, 7.5 years later, or hard work, and brick wall head-bashing, and l am at least on the right path, just need to keep going til the flood gates open?

I see myself more like a professional golfer, now, since l have had years to perfect my craft and it is just a matter of hard work, and trying to stay in the most profitable areas, and be different, etc.

Like most things, sometimes you fail, sometimes you have reasonable success, and sometimes you hit the jackpot!

I am working towards the jackpot!

People that work in jobs, may never get that, but there is something to say about the law of averages bringing in more money than they get long term.

Success is easy, work like a dog, and never stop!

Look at those among us who have made it big. They had discipline BEFORE they
entered internet marketing. And I see a lot of common places that discipline
    came from.

    2. Sports (Wrestling)

    4. Hard life. (Fought against great odds)

Internet marketing skills, especially traffic generation, would be my answer to what makes me a good online marketer.

In terms of traits I would have to say curiosity was my most important trait early on. I wanted to know how guys like Allen Says, Stonve Evans, John Reese, Willie Crawford, Brian Garvin, Rosalind Gardner, and others were earning over $100K a year and then $100K a month.

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.

Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

One thing I know that all online marketers have in common is the power of creativity. A marketer will always think on how he or she can place the advert in a particular context and not walk away without any client. They are always making sure that the ways they create will end up producing fruits. The other trait is the flexibility of the marketers. they are able to handle any niche. All you need to do is give them what needs to be done and will work things out.

Hey everyone interesting topic and here's my two bobs worth lol.....
      -----
A successful marketer is able to lock into most niches using any strategy possible to get into that niche and use it to their full advantage...

They are on a plain that says never give up no matter what even after spending $1000s on all the possible systems known to man(IM) and found them all to be useless and then still have the skill and determination to keep going no matter what, bottomline they never give up not even if the other half is nagging them all the time your fool wasting money here and there can't you see you need a 9-5 job and that is the only way you will get an earning working for someone rat race etc......
So the answer to that would be "NEVER"... its either me as my own boss and own income and only one strategy mine and that's it then he would say lets get to it and go again.....

      Have a good day

I thinks the most common traits I have on online marketing is writing compelling and persuasive content and sales copy for my sales or squeeze page. Sales copy isn’t sales copy unless it sells your prospects on your offer. That`s what I believe is one of most important skills that every marketer should have.

1- Not giving up. Being relentless in their pursuits. Sure most of them (successful marketers) quit from time to time but they eventually came back and finally finished what they started.

It's very easy to quit especially when you are new. Anything that's worth your while or that can give you 'extraordinary' results in life will always have road blocks in front of you.

The universe itself will try to stop you (just to see how serious you are or timid you are).

It takes a lot of guts to 'follow through'.

2- Discipline: To make sure they do what they needed to do.

3- Focused (not easily distracted). Most people will keep looking for the 'short cut' shiny object to make things 'easy'.

4- Consistent: They get into the habit of producing 'every' day.

5- Influence: They learned how to 'influence' people. Influence is key to good marketing.

6- Time Misers: They get the most out of the little time that they have. Almost no one starts IM with tons of time on their hands.

Most of the successful marketers didn't have much time and that was one of their greatest reasons for getting into IM in the first place...

    To create more Time FREEDOM.

7- Patience: This is one of the most hardest things that you will ever need in your IM pursuit. Great things don't happen overnight.

8- Personal Development: All successful marketers partake in personal development 'daily'. They never stop building their minds and mindsets no matter how successful they become.

9- They REMAIN Students: Sure successful marketers have enough experience to 'coach' others. But one thing they don't do...

They never say that they know it all.

A know it all knows nothing.

Successful marketers are willing to keep learning new things.

10- Giving Value: Successful marketers are in the habit of 'Giving'. In this industry you have got to be willing to give a lot before you can start getting.

Same goes in life in general.

11- Conversions: Everything comes down to the buck in the end. Successful marketers have learned how to 'convert' website traffic into money.

    Conclusion:

Yes it does seem like a lot (all these traits and more).

    But isn't it worth it?

Easy... All successful IMers I personally know have one thing in common and that is that they took what they learned and run with it!.. 90% of all people out there (99% in this forum) are buyers and not sellers that´s why some buy aton of stuff all the time year after year and the action takers sell a ton of quality stuff and make millions.. I see this all the time... How do I spot them? These are the same people complaining about one time offers.. They have no clue on how to sell.... I love these people.

They need the ability to stay confident. They need to know how to get and find money for advertising. And they need to know what to do with the money that they make (or don't make), with every order that they get.

Plus... they need to learn direct marketing in general, and understand that they're a marketer 1st, and THEN a business owner 2nd.

Their ability to work on their Mindset, Belief, and Energy, on a daily basis.

    Everything starts within. EVERYTHING.

Change your mind, raise your vibrations, evolve your energy, follow your passion, and take massive consistent action.

This is the simple concept all successful marketers follow like their life depended on it - because it really does. And actually, this is the same simple concept ALL successful people follow!

There are no differences at all - between someone who is successful in a sport, and someone who is success with internet marketing. The principles and the basics to succeed are the same.
