Default Kunaki: How does the upload of a DVD work?

I've been looking into Kunaki's services, downloaded the software, but not sure what format you have to make the DVD for it to upload or does the Kunaki software take care of all this too? The Kunaki website doesn't seem to explain this step of the process.

Thanks in advance, Allan

I've finally found the answer to my own question within the Kunaki software. I need to basically create my own physical master DVD and the software creates its own image file of the DVD when its in the DVD drive. Sounds easy enough!

Is there anything else I should know about Kunaki? Warnings? Praise? Problems?

Thanks, Allan

Kunaki is a machine - works how it works with no handholding. You either like it or go elsewhere.
I'm using it for a CD. I'm pretty happy.

If you want to customize the CD label or jewelbox insert or even add your own ISBN/barcode, there is some graphics work involved (for example with Adobe Elements or Photoshop).

Not tough although not documented so well.
If you let them take care of the details (I didn't) it's painless.

Will use them again

Hi Eric,

I haven't attempted to upload to Kunaki just yet. Being in Australia, its gonna take days to send (we have third world internet, lol). My understanding is the master should be a normal DVD you have created that is playable in DVD players and the software reads the disc in your drive and turns it into a digital file for upload. Let me know how you go! Once we have finalised our master and artwork, we will be uploading (hopefully).

Be certain to test the disc to ensure it works before uploading as it takes a LONG time.
If a movie try in your tvs player might be wise too.

Hi Allan,

Yap you are right. It take very LONG time in the upload.

However, you can stop at any point and continue the next day durng your upload. In my first CD (600+ MB), it took me around 3 days to complete the upload. So I guess for a DVD (in GB size), it might take you longer. As what John suggested, test out your disc first before the conversion.

Once that is in, using their system is a breeze.

Happy uploading ...

I know I'm repeating, but this has bit me and others before.

If you're doing a DVD, test the final product on a DVD player -- preferably one at someone else's house. I bought a DVD that worked fine for the guy who created it, but it didn't work on my player -- because he didn't "finalize" the disc.

That may not be a problem with a computer-created DVD, but there are other things that can come into play in that scenario. Play it safe, test on something that's not yours. =:)

As far as Kunaki in general, I *love* that service. It makes doing "test" marketing much easier than handling it all in house.

Thanks eaglechick, just read Lee McIntyre's Quick Start Kunaki. Kunaki should use it as their instructions!

In the next 24 hours, we will be uploading our first CD just as a test.

Glad I could help out. Best of luck - know it will be a great success. Just remember
(and I'm sure you know that) that all the "problems" on your software must be
sorted out before you upload. They also say it takes some time to upload - so
keep the "tinned liquid refreshments" handy.

another safe payment processor on as well. This is a hungry, unexploited market.
If you've not already done that.

Thanks for everyone's help with learning how to use Kunaki! So far, I uploaded an audio CD as a test and right now uploading our first DVD. Suprisingly, it's only going to take 24 hours to upload (compared to the 'days' I was expecting it to take).

Now time to start getting serious about the marketing of this DVD! :-)

It is pretty cool, but what sucks is that you cant edit the cover art or anything after it has been submitted. You have to go through the whole process from scratch again.

So, if I'm understanding right, you cannot upload from a file on your computer? You first have to burn the CD/DVD with the info on it THEN upload to kunaki?

hi Coyotex,

Not sure if any one else pm you the reply, but here's my version.

YES .. you need to burn to CD/DVD first before you use their software to convert to an "image" for uploading to kunaki. The uploading to Kunaki is done through a software that Kunaki provides. Just search from their website and you will see a link to download it.

Not very user-friendly to find though.

If you can't find it, just PM me and I'll look for it.
