Thanks in advance for any help on this, but I would like to make videos that cannot be downloaded (web-based) onto the viewer's personal computers (reduces sharing). What production settings and format is best for this? Any help is appreciated. - John |

If you just use the standard settings and the standard Camtasia player, the videos are pretty hard to download. There are ways to do it, but I think that's about as safe as you're going to get it. Have you had problems with people downloading the standard Camtasia videos? |

Personally, I prefer to download the video to my computer for two reasons: A) it plays faster and B) I find it easier to watch it anytime I want to and if the website ever goes belly up, I can still reference the video when I need to. What if you watermarked your URL address on the video? If people share it, then you get free advertising for your site. |

Hi John, In my opinion Flash video's are best but it does depend on to what extent you want to stop the ability to download. Every video you view online will get cached to your browsers cache or temporary folder. You could apply for DRM on the video's but this can be very expensive. You can also use Java code to disable the "right click>Save As" command. Again, like I said it depends on how far you want to go. |

Oh, well that's different LOL. I thought they were just normal videos on your web site.

I offer Camtasia training videos as part of my copywriting training membership site using Amember script as well. I actually give instructions on how to download the videos especially for those using 56K modem hookup. I find that the normal fear that people would join your membership site and download all your videos to be unfounded in practice. You're quicker to find people who join and DON'T USE the service than join and 'rip you off'. But if you still want to secure your videos, then I would drip-feed them rather than offer all at the same time. Just my experience. Others may differ. -Ray Edwards |

I asked that same question some years ago and unless it's changed you can get pretty much any video from the Windows Temporary files. I think if you compile it in an ebook (like Louis Allport did a few years ago) it doesn't seem to be there, but Macs and some people who won't download exe's won't have access. I'd just watermark them and put a copyright notice (report abuse to...) at the begging of the video and it'll discourage most of the abuse, even those that do it unknowingly. But personally when I purchase a product with videos I like to download it. Alan |

x, your a successful guy, you don't even need to worry about ppl downloading your video to spread everywhere. I download videos from past membership sites I was involved in, and not once did it cross my mind to "share with the world" someone elses work not meant to be shared. I was only focused on making money from the tactics, and yes...it is nice to offer the videos to download b/c they do play faster on the computer and it's convienient. Your fear is unjustified. |

To add on to what Ray said, in addition to drip feeding the videos, you could offer back archives of the video for a certain price to people who may have joined later.
