Wordpress and Categories Help...

Warriors, quick question...

On my blog, under the "Categories" section there is a drop down menu with the different categories. When you click on one, it then takes you to a FULL TEXT post and at the bottom of that page, you can then go to the next post in that category.

Are you aware of a widget or plugin that will only take one to a page with a page that has just the category listed and the titles listed under it instead of the FULL post?

I hope that makes sense. It would look like an archive page with the category title, and then nicely listed under it would be the linked titles to the related articles only...NOT full text.

Ideas?

Thanks!

I use one of the default widgets called "Find Post by Category". It is a drop down menu of categories. When I select one, it brings me to a page containing a list of the posts in that category, up to some number. (Maybe if your post is very long, it would only list the first one.) It works just like the archived posts widget, except it's by category instead of date.

You can also use a "read more" tag in your posts. This hides text after the tag, until someone clicks it to visit a separate page with the post.

If you are posting articles, you might want to give them a separate page, then make a short post to alert people to the new article.

    That sounds perfect! Thank you!

Can you give me a link to it?

Sorry it took so long to reply . . . I've been out. I think it is a default widget, so I don't have a link to a plugin page or anything. It is called "Categories" (I renamed mine to "Find Post by Category") and you can find it under the "Appearance" sidebar menu then "widgets" sub-menu. You have to add it to your sidebar from a list of available widgets. If you don't have this widget, let me know and I'll try to figure out what plugin gave it to me. But, like I said, I think it's available by default.

    Hi Dylan,

I don't know whether this is the plugin, but it might be:

WordPress › List category posts WordPress Plugins

I found it while doing this search:

Find post by category wordpress plugin - Google Search

The Wordpress.org site also has a pretty good search for locating plugins that are on the wordpress.org site (which are all free .

That looks good, but I'm not sure how I get it to post to a Page, instead of in the sidebar since it is a Widget. Hmmm...
