Any suggestions for a guy starting out?

Hey guys, what's up? I'm in my mid 20's, in the U.S military and will be getting out soon in a year with a couple of months left. Before I get out, I want to have a back up plan at least and that is having something like an online business that I can make money off. One of my friends told me that blogging about a niche that you like is a good start and there's this guy from some random forum that I visited a week ago saying he making good money by creating a sales funnel while building a list. So guys what do you think? Any suggestions or Ideas? Anything will help and please, no troll post. Thank you.

Spend time reading posts on this forum about blogging, niche selection and building a funnel. Start with learning one thing at a time, Do not believe everything you read here or elsewhere. Some make claims of making huge sums of income, while scamming people out of money. A huge percentage won't make a dime or very little to income at all.

Treat this like basic training, you have to put a lot of time and commitment to make it online. Not everyone makes it here and leaves the IM world for good. Try using the search button up top in the header and type in a subject line and you can read the results. Do not treat this like a hobby if you want to make a real business out of IM.

If you want to invest a lot of time and effort in something that may never make a penny. That's the standard reply of people who don't know how to make money online. If they had a clue they would never suggest that as a beginning strategy.

    and please, no troll post.

      A few tips:

Don't expect to do well from the start. Trying and failing is part of the learning process. Just don't give up.

The money is in creating a mailing list.

Buying internet marketing training products is a good way to improve your skills. But don't buy too many, and don't confuse viewing/ reading these products with taking action.

Run your intertnet marketing business at the same time as paid employment to begin with. Stop working when your are making enough from the IM business.

Whatever market niche you are going in to make sure you are selling prodicts/ services that address peoples 'pain' and that they are people who have the money to spend on removing that pain. No pain - no gain!

Believe 100% that you can reach your income goal and decide that you will do whatever it takes to do so.

That may include overcoming some "failure." However as an Entrepreneur I can tell you that "failure" is actually a good thing. Why? Because it teaches you how to succeed: It's all part of the learning process.

    Good luck.

Step 1: make a STRONG commitment to succeeding and never giving up no matter what. (This is important)

2: find a good mentor who is doing really well online and model what they do to succeed.

    3. Know that if you want to make money with affiliate marketing, IT TAKES MONEY TO MAKE MONEY if you want fast results.

Do what you enjoy, but make sure it's a topic in demand.

I blogged on a certain topic years ago and it evolved into a sizeable dropshipping business which still stands today. Free products ahoy and huge margins.

Stay ambitious and positive and don't limit yourself to digital.

    First, Thank-You for your service!!!

There are many ways, building a list of prospective buyers is definitely one of the 4 pillars of building success online - in my opinion.

Your best bet, don't reinvent the wheel, and never 'fake it til you make it' by attempting to be a guru from the get go, as many here do!

Use affiliate products, recognize and research problems or desires people have, and simply facilitate the seeker with the seller of their solution or remedy.

    The 4 key items needed once you know there's a market, and you have the 'solution' people will pay for, is to study all the components to master the following;

    - Targeted Traffic (Prospective buyers)

    - Landing Page Lead Magnet - Opt-ins (List Building)

    - Quality Offerings (Solutions)

    - Cultivate Your List! - Turn them into loyal clients/customers

Beneath these (4) pillars is a ton of trial & error, testing & tweaking to get it all aligned properly.

So, you'll need some tech skills, tracking, and analysis to compile solid sales funnels, target traffic, and build multiple income streams.

I would use affiliate products and services to start... No authority required, as is so with blogging or 'posing' as an authority. Too many times, people see right through the bs... Where being "transparent" is so much faster & easier.

    Godspeed!

There is a big world outside promoting IM / Make Money Online offers.

I tell everyone just starting out to look at PPL (pay per lead) offers. I have been heavily promoting them for over 15 years, so will admit that I'm bias when it comes to them

PPL is basically lead generation. There is no credit card needed to complete an offer, all a user has to do is fill out a form to make money. So conversion rates are typically much higher than offers that require a purchase.

I favor offers that have a make, get or save money angle to them. They are what have overall worked the best for me and they tend to have the greatest mass appeal (large/wide audience), so the potential exists to produce high volume.

I typically run PPL offers that pay between $20-$60 on front-end campaigns and I will test offers that are close to $20. I will run offers that pay less and those that require a sale on the back-end.

To generate traffic, I acquire fresh targeted data (email) that I know what users are interested in and that I know there is a PPL offer that matches their interest. I generate real-time co-reg targeting specific PPl offers and I acquire aged data, but that a little more involved.

The reason I choose to acquire data over other marketing methods is that I'm building assets that I then own and can market to over and over at low cost. Where most marketers will buy traffic that usually just results in one-time clicks and then have no way to market additional offers to them.

The downside to what I do, is that there is no free traffic method, as you are buying data to generate traffic. So it takes money to make money. The upside though is that you spend the money once on the data and then you can market to them until someone unsubscribes. Which high percentage will tend to stick for many years.

Everyone I know that is in the business and know what they are doing, does 6-7 figures. Granted that is a huge range, it mostly comes down to the ability to scale(budget) and then effectively managing the infrastructure that comes with scaling.

Keep in mind that many promote PPL and don't do it by acquiring data, so you regardless of your budget, you should at least look into it.

    Something to consider.

      I agree with this.

I know a lot of people that do well with PPL also. Many involve trial offers where a user "try's" the product for free at first than after a month is charged. These offers do well because they aren't as aggressive as other methods.

I also know someone who made a ton on PPL for a service. They get users to sign up and are paid a flat whether the customer buys or not.

Good stuff from DIABLO above. I can personally attest to PPL and CPA trial offers myself.

Always lots of opportunities with it. The key is to find offers ( like he said) that range above $20 or so pay out.

Because it is mostly based around Paid Advertising and to get those Margins you need something that pays out decent.

Although I have had Sites where I utilized SEO Free Traffic to go and sign up for Sites that offered CPA of $2 to $5 range per signup. Which actually was pretty profitable.

Make a blog about something you're interested and then write some guides on the niche and sell them on your website. You wont make money from the blog, but youll make money from the digital downloads you sell on it.
If you're military then I can tell you that having a military/weapon/survival website is a *Big* money maker. Blogging about how to survive in ____ situation, weapons & reviews, etc. It takes time to build but if youre young and put effort into it youll have a beautiful business in a few years.
you can sell guides, products, Patriotic t-shirts "This guy loves Ammo" "God Bless America", stuff like that

it's a good thing to start and as you are retiring from the military and you have much time for that you can do it easily.... first in the start you have to struggle as the person above gave you the id of the person whose case was the same as yours you can contact him and definitely he can advise you better than anyone here because he walked through that same situation and the person who felt this can understand better the condition of the other...... Best of luck for your future...

Spend time learning the ways to make money first. Choose a way to make money. For example you can choose Google Adsense. Then you need to get a domain name, hosting for it. Use Wordpress.

For the first few months, just keep reading and learning until you are good enough, you can start your own website and make money. From there, you may need to get tools and services like Scrapebox, GSA SER to do SEO, social media automation like Buffer like these.

A few years down the road, you SHOULD start making at least $1k+ and maybe 5 years or more you should be making at least $5k-6k. All depends on how you plan out, how hardworking you are.

    Hey jafp1617,
A great way to start in internet marketing is Affiliate Marketing. You have very little in to start. The one big thing I could say that could help you succeed with Affiliate Marketing is build up an email list. The bigger email list you have the more people who will see what you are marketing. I have found this article on CopyBlogger (not my site btw) that has been a big help for me to get started. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me!

I would get an audible account and get all the best business books on marketing, selling, branding, persuasion, etc.

    Listen to them repeatedly.

If you have access to the Internet you can also learn how to throw up Wordpress sites, but before you become too involved in the blogging game I'd learn about business and use those skills with your online venture.

Also doing lots of market research would be good too, including basic things like grabbing a domain name.

Good question. Off on the side Thank you!

    ok back on track...

Making money which you know is all about supply and demand. We have a tool here the internet in which we can get our ad or campaigns in front of a targeted audience.

As a business you want to have full control. Blogging is just a marketing/branding strategy and can take weeks, months and even years to benefit from if at all and you can be doing very well and then lose everything overnight.

You want to be able to get traffic now and not wait for it. You have a lot more control over your business.

    supply and demand
    traffic and conversions

You have traffic sources like pay per click, cost per view, banner advertising, blogging, forums, guess posting, email, in text....

Pick just a couple whether free or paid and pick your marketplace and product if your an affiliate. The critical part is to separate yourself from your competition with your own funnel. Spend some time and get traffic flowing and track to see where the traffic is coming from. Next you want to optimize to convert that traffic into leads and then buyers.

Might take you a little while to get it and put it all together but after the first couple of times it becomes much easier.

Take the time to learn it and do not focus on instant gratification without work

Thank you again for your service and time

I think blogging can be an excellent starting point to allow you to get a little traffic in and its area. That does not mean you will suddenly make money from the blog but it can be a great learning experience for you as you start to get your feet wet. From there you may find it easier to branch out into other areas.

Look into email marketing and list building. Having your own list is a great asset to have and it's like a cash register. Once you learn how to effectively communicate to your list, the amount of money you can make from it is endless.

There are a few things you can build online to earn an income. So it would depend on what exactly you are more comfortable working with and the skills you have or/and want to develop.

You can make money online as a Freelancer, Blogger, Affiliate Marketer, Internet Marketer, and Network Marketer.

There are some more ways, I'm just mentioning the most popular ones here.

With Freelancing, all you do is focus on skills that others would pay you for. You exchange your services (skills) for a price. If you are good at writing, for an instance, you can sell articles for a reasonable price. If you like building Websites or/and WordPress Sites, you can sell your services and build a good customer base.

If you want to develop SEO (search engine optimization) Skills, then once you do, you can sell your knowledge and skill with that.

And things like this .... this is one way to make money online with Freelancing.

If you want to build something more solid, and something long term and more automated, Blogging + Affiliate Marketing + Internet Marketing + Network Marketing is where is at!!

You can actually combine all of these, and build a residual and passive income. It will take longer and more efforts, than with freelancing, of course. But it is a long term business opportunity online.

With freelancing you get paid by trading your skills and services for money. With blogging, affiliate marketing, etc - is a different story - you get paid based on Sales you make, whether you were present during the sale or not.

You will build more time freedom with blogging, affiliate marketing, etc.

Here is what I personally do; I build a niche blog, I make sure everything looks good (design and structure) - for a good user experience, I publish 2 to 3 valuable and unique blog posts a week, I implement many internet marketing strategies to build up the Daily Traffic Flow to the blog, I use social media to brand the blog, I monetize the blog very well with Banners and Call to Actions, I capture email leads, and finally, I follow up with these leads to build rapport and sell to them with time.

Your blog online is pretty much like your store online. It is open 24/7, people can come by and take a look around, learn some good information, and maybe get interested in the products and services (affiliate marketing and network marketing) you are promoting - they opt in for more information and possibly buy right away.

But most sales happen through the follow ups. Not everyone buys right away. They might be a little interested at first, and that is why it is a smart idea to Capture their Email Address - so you can follow up with them in case they do not buy right away.

Anyways, these are the simple concepts to making money online and building an income stream through blogging.

I can explain more but I am about to go to sleep here lol

    I hope this helps!

And thank you for your service in the military, by the way!

Keep up the great work, and make things happen!

To cut my long suggestion short, just go get this book called Bloggers Boot Camp by Charlie White.

All the concepts inside sound and proven. I run a blog that makes money and I can say that all the strategies and techniques in the book are all the ones that I've used over the years I've been blogging.

So guys what do you think? Any suggestions or Ideas? Anything will help and please, no troll post. Thank you.

        Hello,

First of all I want to thank you for serving our country. You are awesome. I am new to Internet marketing myself and I tried many different methods to make money at home. One of the best ways is to become an affiliate marketer and promote other people's products. And no one does it better than Ewan Chia.

          Hi,

Making money form blogging about something you are passionate about is great idea.

Creating product funnels is much harder and cost a lot more money.

If you want to create a blog you will have to learn how to do it the right way.

-I recommend joining "WealthyAffiliate" which is like a super community where they have amazing training that will teach you how to make a good living blogging about something you enjoy.

          Focus on being really helpful

By being helpful you will naturally build a following of people!

If you want to make money online, you are going to have to build an audience of people who want to consume your content and trust you enough to take action on your recommendations.

To do this you need a website with great content.

Then you have to start building your list, Give away something that your target audience will want to consume in exchange for their email.

Once you have their email you can send them emails regularly by using an autoresponder.

In the emails you give people more great value and every now and then you can recommend a product to them as an affiliate.

It is very vital that you start building an email list form day one, no matter what you end up doing. As this will allow you to build relationships with people.

Again one of the best places online you can go to, to learn this stuff is Wealth Affiliate.

          Hoped that helped!
