Do Cheaper / Lower Price Offers Convert Better?

First off I'm very new to Internet marketing so take it easy on me. I've got a niche blog I'm trying to monetize. I've found a good product, that I've actually used and am comfortable promoting. And there is an affiliate program for that product - that I am signed up with.

There is an e-book product for $15 and a video series of the same stuff for $130. Commission is 50%. So I'd make $7.50 on the ebook -vs- $65 on the video. Do you guys find that cheaper products convert better?? Or does it matter? $130 is a lot to convince someone to part with.

Say I convert at 1%. To get 100 people to visit my affiliate links, I need 500 people to visit my site. Unless I magically get lots of free traffic, and/or all my SEO work starts paying off... I could see it easily costing more than $7.50 to get enough traffic to make that one sale, and then I've made no money. ...which is why I'm leaning towards the higher priced option. What do you guys think?

    You should see if you get affiliate credit if they buy the video product after buying the ebook. In a typical funnel, the ebook would be sold upfront and then the video course would be an upsell. Product creators may or may not give affiliates commissions for upsells. Is it clear in the affiliate terms that you can only get commissions for direct promotion of the video course?

    I'll have to read over the terms again to be certain, but with this offer, I believe you got 50% of the whole shopping cart, even the upsell. In fact they were highlighting that as a benefit, like lots of customers said yes to the upsell and the average shopping cart was xx dollars. ...whatever it was. So in that case maybe it'd be better to start with the $15 item and hope they get hooked on the upsell. ;-)

    Yes, that's the best way to do it. People who buy the front end are more likely to buy the upsell than people you just directly market the upsell to. And if they aren't interested in the more expensive upsell in the first place, you still get front end sales.

      Mattoondah,

      Do you know that people are looking to buy the product you have chosen? Do you find evidence of people online asking for the product in e-book form or the video series? That will help you to see which format is in demand the most. If you don't see online demand, I would suggest you think twice about the product.

    As Steve said, see if there is demand for the product before trying to promote it.

    If there is demand, it is always much easier to get someone in the door with something cheaper and then let the funnel do its job.

    I think the most important question is: Whats your relationship with the user you are trying to sell to?

    For example: If you already have a list and people trust you because you give them a lot of value, it is much easier to sell the more expensive product.

    But lets say you send users straight to the offer without them knowing you or the product... they will probably not buy something expensive...

    It mainly depends on the market you are targeting. Some pool of buyers convert better at smaller prices while others convert better at higher ones. You would need to test the product out to see which one converts better.

    Sometimes you can sell lower end products to segment your market from the freebie seekers and buyers. Then you can upsell to low end buyers the higher price products.

    I promote the same type products you promote. What works for me i have a funnel that does all the work for me, You just send Free Traffic or Paid Traffic to your site.
