How to paste an article from word to Wordpress without loosing formatting?

Hi Guys,

I have written a few dozen of articles well formatted in microsoft Word and was trying to paste it to Wordpress but lost all the formatting.

There is any way to paste the articles without loosing all the formatting?

I tried out and but did not find any easy solution.

Any thoughts?

thanks,
Morg

because there is code with word documents. You need to paste into notepad then into wp and then reformat.

Also in your post editor there is a button to "Paste as Text" I am not sure how it works as I usually do not paste from word. But if you turn it off it supposedly helps with pasting a word document

      That option is too bad
because all the articles have lots of formatting (text, graphics, colors, etc)

Good question as I'm needing an answer my self.

The best thing I have found is to just create the post in WordPress to begin with, but I understand that is not an answer to your question

It sucks because I prefer to write posts in Google Docs as I tend to work better that way

I just found this Chrome plugin. I'm going to give it a try, but it might help you out, Luke.

Most Word formatting will transfer over to WordPress and look OK IF you paste it into the Visual editor side (if you don't see that side you can enable it in your user profile.
I'm not saying the code will be as clean or as good as if you strip out all the tags and rebuild it in the WordPress editor or write it by hand, but it will usually work and look good. Interrupted Ordered Lists will need their start numbers reverted to 1.

Have you tried saving your document from WORD as an html file or web page? At least some of the coding should be saved with the post so it can be transferred over to WP.

You might want to try this:
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/...the-formatting

If that doesn't work you might want to see if installing the WP Edit plugin and then creating your posts in WP itself works out better for you.

I haven't used any plugin with this capabilities, but I think there are plugins like that.

Here's what I can give, an advise: when creating a content, it is more easy to have it edited on WordPress directly, via a builder is better. That way, you can make the visualizations and the proper arrangements of the content that you desired.

I have experienced this problem like yours before when I transferred a set of articles from GDocs to Wordpress, so I can feel what you are feeling right now.

      Thanks for your feedback.

Sincerely i was not expecting Wordpress to have this behaviour i was really expecting something more straightforward.

But from now i will start doing directly from the page Wordpress page builder.

      Thanks,

    Here's what I do:

    1. Write in Google Docs (copy/pastes into WordPress with formatting really well)
2.Upload/open Word files in Google Docs, use the formatting features in Google Docs, then copy/paste to WordPress
    3. Write in WordPress directly (although I've sometimes lost posts this way if the page crashed)

I'd advise not working in Word. Google Docs has really improved its game this year, and it's my editor of choice for web work.

      Thanks,

I tried copying from Word to google Docs and then paste to Wordpress but all the text formatting was lost. I think i will copy to Wordpress and the re-format the content. Then will start writing directly in WP.

      Thanks,
      Morg

Instead of using Notepad, try Wordpad.

Have you tried saving the document from Word as an html File?
Also, there are some plugins out there that help.

The easiest way to maintain your formatting is to paste the content into the html area of the post.

Click on write post and within the post click on html. Paste the content there.
