WSO - great place for market research!

So, about a week ago I created an information product on Twitter and sold it as a WSO. It sold like gangbusters (whatever gangbusters sell like) and I was thrilled. So, then I did something I've been wanting to do for ages - I put together a great weight loss PLR package, complete with graphics, put it on the WSO, and my God did that sucker tank.

But I actually got some really good info out of it: several experienced warriors weighed in and gave me really helpful pointers on what I left out. I realized I rushed too much to get it up and if I'd given it a couple more days to sit and ponder, I would have created a better sales page. And I also found out that at least for me, info products seem to do better than PLR.

A couple of tips: get testimonials. And - whatever your WSO is - after you create it, set it aside for a few days, ask friends to review both the WSO and your WSO sales page before it goes live.

And finally, while I would recommend having your WSO as perfect as possible before you put it up - the WSO is great for market research and if your product or sales page has flaws you will find out quickly here.

Oh yeah - I did a weightloss PLR WSO that went down like a lead balloon. And I've done (very) successful PLR WSOs in the past. JUst the way it goes sometimes, and I've adjusted my strategy for the time being.

You Twitter WSO was ace, bu the way.

Just realized I posted somethingI shouldn't have - my WSO copy - I seriously was not trying to do it as a sales ploy, i was trying to get some more insight into possible problems. It's gone now!

        Dana,

I bought your Twitter WSO and was very impressed with the product. I am planning my first WSO. Could I PM you with the salescopy when I have it ready? I could sure use some "qualified" input.

Surely! I would be happy to look over it. Make sure you ask a few people that you trust, and that have experience in internet marketing - different people will spot different things.

Also, you could have the Private War room warriors look at the WSO and
advise on it, before you launch it in the WSO section...

I am amazed, astounded and completely bumfuzzled!

The "Private War Room" is a great part of WF. The participants are knowledgeable, experienced marketers.

But copy critiquing is not their brief!

If you want to know why your car's headlights don't come on do you ask your dentist?

If you want good information on the latest hairstyles do you ask Kevin Riley?

              Do you ask your bartender...
Umm, OK, that one's no good--bartenders are asked everything--they're all-knowing

Did you know that--yes right here in our very own Warrior Forum--there's a special subsection called, The Copywriting Forum?

Either click the link or go to the main page of the Warrior Forum and let your eyes travel down to the sixth sub-forum...

Asking your friends for info can be, depending on your friends, beneficial.

Asking--and receiving--critiques from people who write copy for a living is priceless!

    Dana,

Well written post. Your observation/information/advice is spot on.

A couple of tips: get testimonials. And - whatever your WSO is - after you create it, set it aside for a few days, ask friends to review both the WSO and your WSO sales page before it goes live.
If I may I'll add one little word to your statement:
"...ask qualified friends to review both the WSO and your WSO sales page before it goes live.
Most of us have friends both on WF and in real life. Our "real life" friends rarely have a clue about what we do. Our marketing friends do.

But, and this is a big "but", they don't necessarily do what we do. Designers and graphic artists may not be able to write a grocery list, coders may be a bit short in basic design areas. Some article writers run like crazy when the word copy is mentioned.

Want copy reviewed? Ask a copywriter. Page layout a problem? Make friends with a designer. Trying to code something...

We all have different areas of knowledge, expertise and passion. We naturally wish to associate with people like ourselves.

Broaden your horizons. Befriend someone different to yourself. You'll both gain.

    Synergistically yours,

    Elmer

I totally agree with you. The WSO I have been running has given me fantastic testimonials that I can use later on as I launch to the public. I have also been able to refine my offer due to feedback.

That is spot on Dana...WSO's are really almost like mini-launches so you can work out the details, and gain a little momentum before heading into the "real world". The warrior forum is great for honing and tightening things up a bit.
