Is this website worth building?

I own the domain scotlandsnationalanimal.com and I am curious does anyone think its worth trying to monetize? How would you do it? The keyword gets a decent amount of traffic.

    What is decent amount of traffic, and is your primary business model domain flipping? Needless to say you have to market it just as if it was another product. Doesn't matter what you sell online... service or not.

        Most importantly, it is not a domain name that has commercial intent. Who is going to go to that site looking to spend money?

        So you get some traffic to the site in the form of browsers surfing the Internet - what good does that do you?

        You might make a few cents with ads on the site . . . but there are far too many better ways to monetize web sites than to mess around with something like what you're suggesting.

    NO! This domain name is too long... and hard to remember. Hardly get any traffic. If there is traffic, it is either from paid ads or organic search traffic from search engines.

    You can try monetize if the keyword you are targeting is really a lot (like 20k above) and do SEO! Without SEO, your domain name is quite useless.

    At first I was going to agree with most replies and say not worth it, but then I Googled "scotlands national animal".

    This is something you could rank for along with other keywords which (at first) seems to be no big deal. Until you realize.....

    Scotland's national animal is the Unicorn!

    Unicorns alone are a huge niche- t-shirts, posters, stickers, stories, movies, slogans, memes.

    So after finding that Scotland's national animal is a unicorn, I have a feeling the domain may be worth developing.

    It's not that you must/should monetize the site right away, but there will be more traffic than just curious searches for a nation's national animal.

    And there is certainly room for tons of content, stories, info, tourism, history, etc. around Unicorns that will appeal to more than Scottish people or students learning national animals of countries.

      Sorry, bit jokey but believe it or not this happened...

      I seem to remember Tourists in Scotland going on a 'Haggis Hunt' complete with hunting rifles etc.

      Someone convinced this bunch that the Haggis is a wild animal and very difficult to catch, these 'Hunters' were apparently up for the challenge!!!

      Thats the only mileage I can see in your domain name, make the Haggis your national animal and...

    I might be biased...

    You have the word Scotland and Animal in the name, you could build an affiliate review site focusing on the pet niche, or animals in general and market Scotland as your area. You could research products for Horses, (Sheep) ... household pets, find other sites in the animal niche and link with them, and perhaps include interesting articles on Scottish animals in general. You could also embed YouTube videos and pictures to enhance your presentation.

    Google would see that kind content as relevant to the domain name. Although the domain name is a factor, it is only its relevance to the content that Google looks at, not how pretty it is. I think it is the quality of the content and focused optimization of your site that is most important nowadays. I think your interest market is massive.

      You can monetise any site with any domain name.

      What matters then, is your marketing approach...and of course that will be dictated by the product or service you intend to offer.
