What image size do you prefer for your social media marketing?

Hello

I make social media images for bloggers and marketers... but one thing that I'm just really not sure about -- and should have asked a LONG time ago... what size of images do most marketers prefer?

I realize that each social media source has it's own best image dimensions to use... but is there a one set "happy medium" on image size that works for most of them?

Well, I was really hoping to get some feedback. Surely most of you out there use certain image sizes...even if it's just for your blog post?? What I'm hoping to find is one particular size that fits well for most uses. Right now I usually do a simple 650X650. So, it's not a perfect size for Pinterest but usually works fairly well between Instagram and FB.... and it seems lately that it works for Twitter whenever I do ones with the text centered. Perhaps Twitter has updated their image displaying format?

OK, here is some feedback. Do your standard size, then do one bigger and one smaller, so you have it readily available for what the site might require.

In many cases, there could be a size restriction, say 98k or whatever. Your high quality pixel measurement could exceed the allowed size.

It takes a New York minute to change the sizes and save them, so you have different sizes for different needs.

If the site gives you a template size, running it through your pic editor and cropping should give you what you need.

      If I were in your shoes . . .

I would go to the most popular social media sites, see what sizes they suggest work best on their particular site, then make a note of it and proceed doing the same thing at the next site. Do this until you are satisfied that you have covered the main sites.

Then look at your list and find the largest image size that is a common denominator among all (or most of the sites). I would go with the largest size the covers them all. Maybe it means you have to have two common sizes that will cover all the sites.

Then I would focus on that one (or two) sizes and make all your images at 72px/inch so they load quickly. You could always keep larger more pixel "heavy" images (300px/in) in a file just in case a client wants a larger size or wants to print an image on paper.

360x180 works best for me, usually skyscraper ads works lousier. Every site has different results, do your test. Put skyscraper and record down the performance and next try other sizes. Only try and error can give you the exact answer.

      Revenue Gal,

I've been using this size quite successfully for some time now . . . 610x550.

      Good luck,

Thanks for all the valuable info, Steve! Do you use this mainly on FB? Have you tried it on Instagram and Twitter?

      Rhonda,

Mostly on FB - but I have made some similar images for other businesses (as a way to help brand and get their sites shared by others) so I know they have been used . . . but I don't know if the images themselves were re-sized first which is really easy to do.

I prefer about 600x300. What I use on my blogs and seems to fit well on Twitter and G+.

But as already mentioned, making different sizes could cover your bases.

Thanks for your input. It seems like I should probably offer at least two sizes then... because Twitter does seem to do better with the shorter height from my experience.

--- Or maybe I should focus on just one main social media platform for images. ??? Some marketers no longer care for FB and others no longer care for G+ -- It's one of those things that you really have to decide what is the best social media network for your business. No shoe fits all!
