Hey Everyone, OK, I need some help here. I had a blog that was hacked and my hosting company did not back it up because I have to much information. Lesson learned. Do not rely on a third party to do your backups. Any way, I had to reinstall wordpress, but I did hot overwrite the old data base. So, I have access to the posts from the old database. I want to take the data from the old data base and upload it to the new data base. Can I do that and if I can please PM me a quote. I have the posts from the old database downloaded in CSV format and .XML format. I tried doing it myself with no luck. Thanks, Shannon |

You may have to rename your database and a new install (if done from fantastico) will have a generic database name. Find config.php and look for database name and password.. Once finding that then upload your saved databse, rename to what is in the config.php file, add the same user and password and it should connect ok. |

For those of you looking to manage your MySQL data from one location, including backing them all up with the click of a button, here is a product I use: Navicat Oracle, MySQL Admin Tool - the World's Best Oracle Manager, MySQL GUI & PostgreSQL GUI for Windows, Linux & Mac OS X - Download Now! Support Access to MySQL, Excel to MySQL, MySQL editor, MySQL administrator, MySQL frontend, MySQL manager, ph This is not one of my products and it's not an affiliate link - it's a fantastic product if you work with more than a couple of dabases and need centralized management. I've used it for years and it literally saves me 12 to 15 hours per week! |

I'm not sure how to port in the data since it's in .xml format, but if you had the full database it's simply a case of setting up a new database, importing the data in, and then changing the configutation file to point to the new database. But yeah, sorry to hear that your old host didn't bother to keep proper backups. I assume it was HostGator or another crappy extreme overseller? As a note (I know it's too late now!), always check with a host that they will *always* backup your data. Plus keep backups yourself. Even a quality host who keeps daily backups can make mistakes (or be targetted by a very malicious hacker, etc) |
