How would you go about recording this? (VIDEO)

I just got a Blue Yeti for Christmas, and it's awesome. The sound quality is freaking amazing, and after doing some messing around in Audacity, I've decided it's more than good enough for what I'm going to be doing.

I'm having a bit of trouble when it comes to recording videos, however.

I'm using a Logitech webcam to record the video, and in the Logitech application I can set the microphone to the yeti. This works fine, and it uses the yeti to record audio, but the sound quality is no where near as good as it is when using audacity.

My solution was to record the audio in Audacity and the video with the webcam, and then try to sync them manually in my video editing software. This would work fine in theory, but I haven't been able to get it just right. It always seems to be off by about 2-3 milliseconds, which I find very noticeable.

I'm just wondering how you guys go about recording videos, and what you'd do if you encountered the issue I'm facing.

Thanks!

I've tried Windows Movie Maker and Sony Vegas, but just can't seem to get it 100% synced in either.

WMM is probably useless for something like this. I'd think Sony would be better, but it's been a while since I used it.

I would use Camtasia for this. Import the video along with its audio, as well as the Audacity audio file. Sync the two audio files visually, it's pretty easy to do by just looking at the patterns.

The "unlock" the video audio from the video and delete it.

Don't get me wrong ... but instead of spending 3, 5, 10 hours on finding a solution, couldn't you just get a dedicated solution for it? A DSLR / dedicated camera to which you can simply plugin the microphone? It reminds me of when I'm trying to do this, just to give up in frustration and moving to the simple and practical solution.

As far as what are you trying, I've tried it too. I've used Camtasia with decent results. Camtasia is not the most powerful software but it is the most intuitive and it usually just works.

Rogoz's response is probably better than mine. If you're serious about making videos a web cam probably isn't your best choice.

You can get good digital camcorders pretty cheaply these days and ebay may have some used options.

  • I edit with Camtasia, I have tested this before where I sync audio and video and it worked well.

I have just made an account on here to answer this, always lurked around but never posted.

Here's what I have done many times with my audio and a screen capture, but I will explain how you can apply it to your situation.

First I would click record on audacity, then click record on the screen capture.

I would then say something like 'click' or 'one'.. anything really.. and click minimise on a window. Saying a word and minimising the window at the same time allows me to sync the 'click' noise perfectly to the minimised window when it comes back to editing it in sony vegas. If that makes sense?

You could just clap your hands at the start of each recording or something. Then when editing you will be able to get the audio and video to sync.

I really like this Screen Recorder. It helps me record some online videos with high image quality.
Also, it allows me to capture desktop activities, create video tutorials, presentations and record game process just with a few clicks. Love it so much.

Hope it can also help you.

You just need to adjust audio track regarding the video. This happens because of your integrated sound card. This creates latency, but it's an often issue for may video/audio editors. You can try to check preferances and change latency/buffer preferances, try to minimaze latency to the limits. However, the good sound card could help you out
