amazon says, no more hover boards

Read it and weep. This was the one super hot selling item of the xmas season. Oh yes, amazon says, no more hover boards as they might catch fire and burn up. They are banning all makes and models, not just one. Like amazon is turning into my granny. She did not want me to ride my bike years ago. Afraid I might fall down and have a serious injury. Here I am. Total disclosure, I hate amazon. Yeah, they are gonna ban everything soon. What a worthless company. Hey, in my opinion any way. Like we should throw the BOOK at em!

    Looks super hot.

I guess the people with burning children (or even ones that haven't burnt yet) might agree with Amazons move.

I knew a guy that had more than 500 of them on their way to Amazon's fulfillment centers when Amazon pulled the plug on him.

Doubt he had a good Christmas...

But let's be honest.. can you blame Amazon?

That must have hurt so bad. Looks like he needs to set up an eccomerce website or something!

I wonder if the eCommerce guys who are in this niche will see greater sales due to lack of competition from Amazon.

I guess on affiliates loss could be an eCommerce players gain.

Such is life in this game...

Public opinion moves the market. The trust factor for the peeps who designed the thing is about ZERO. Pretty hard to market ZERO.

Glad that Amazon stopped selling those hover boards. Safety is first with Amazon, and other retailers, both online and off.

They saw a very serious problem and decided to protect the consumer and themselves.

How would you like it if one of your kids and or grand-kids was injured do to that malfunction?

Hope other retailers both online and offline do the same.

Except - that title is not quite true.

Amazon reinstated the NAME BRAND hoverboards - and refused to sell the off brands and no-brands that have problems with poorly made lithium ion batteries.

Of course, the fire hazard is only one problem - stitches, broken bones, concussions....what a great toy to give your kid...

These boards would have been forgotten in a few months anyway.

Forget the kids, lol, dangers of inline skates quickly turned me back to the old fashion roller skates.

Really? You think birthdays cease to happen? You think people only buy things at xmas?

        Don't remind me!

My regret is that inline skates weren't around years earlier when I was younger. I was a terror or roller skates and not bad on ice skates either. I even learned to skateboard in my 30s. I would have LOVED inline skates.

At an age when I had young grandchildren - I tried inline skates. I was careful but was doing great. A (younger) friend broke her wrist in a fall - two surgeries. Then a second friend (also much younger) broke her arm when she fell while skating. Both were better on the skates than I was... so I decided to be smart for a change and 'retired from the sport'.

I think hover boards will be "reinvented" and popular again. Aside from the cheap knockoff battery problem - though the boards are "self balancing" - many people aren't.

That's tough for the good quality board makers that a product is banned because
there are inferior models on the market. It's like banning all ebooks because
    some are crappy.

I agree and it's one of those things that has been creeping up on us - that we don't notice until it becomes critical.

How many knockoffs have we read about -how many "cheaper brands" have we decided to purchase?

It is not about Amazon being your Granny as the OP said, or Safety First as another poster said. It is all about lawsuits and potential lawsuits.
