How much have/would you invest?

Just a general question.. I've lurked on this forum for a while and know there's a combination of newbies and "gurus", not looking for advice per say I'm more just curious.. How much of your own personal money would or have you invested to get started online?

I'm currently working and paying off loans, which I know is the responsible thing to do. But as I watch over a thousand dollars get sucked into a black hole each month (I'm paying more than my minimum payments so I can be done sooner) I can't help but think what if I just invested this instead?

Most things worth doing in life involve taking some sort of risk, but obviously it's important to be smart about it and have a solid plan before taking that leap of faith. At this point I don't think I'd spend over $10,000 to get things off the ground (yes I've had a niche and idea in mind for quite a while now). For someone currently in debt 10 grand is actually a lot to lose, but of course that's all relative.. I could wait a couple years but I'm sure you all know how it is to feel a sense of urgency to act sooner than later.

Thoughts? I gave an exact amount because I'm curious to hear others investment success and/or failure stories if you're willing to share

    Thanks but I don't want a coach (unless their services happen to be free). If anything I need partner(s) but sometimes you have to just go it alone..

    There's no reason you need to spend $10,000 right off the bat. You can get started for less than $25 (domain + hosting, autoresponder)

      I want to make a niche dating site with a unique compatibility calculator.. Realstically it could cost over $10,000 to have this made. Again I'm aware it's a huge risk. But I really believe in this idea and moving forward with it is sort of all or nothing. I could explore other online options but honestly nothing has sparked my interest enough to take a gamble on it, however small..

    You need to have all your necessities covered and bills under control. Use any extra or left over income to start your Internet Marketing Career. DO NOT take on additional debt in hope that you will hit the Lotto. You will just further set yourself backwards. Pay your bills get out of debt and start a small savings usually 10% of what you earn. Later on you will have a nice little nest egg to venture with.

    Yeah, vanity projects usually are.

    You have to decide whether you want to make money or a site you like. The two do not necessarily go hand-in-hand.

    You can start a profitable online business with $100.

      Hmm well I'm not willing to make a site I don't like, selling sh*t I don't care about or believe in, along with my soul in the process. If I wanted to do that I would've gone to law school..

      Call it a vanity project but there are worse things to spend $10,000 on honestly..

    Also how much would one expect to invest in starting an offline business? If it really can be done online with $100 (and no passion for the idea) I have to question the methods..

    So many scams and get rich quick schemes it's depressing

    I have started projects on a shoestring budget, and they do often grow painfully slow.

    I've also invested large sums in several projects/partnerships.. and had two fail, costing a lot. As you know, it's a risk.

    The biggie is that you really want to make sure the demand is there. You obviously love your idea, but will the market?

      I know there's over 100,000 people who would be interested. Will they love it? That remains to be seen but I'd of course like to be optimistic about it. If done right the marketing will start out targeting a certain audience but it'll end up being accessible to anyone..

    You need probably $1000+ to get started as you need a lot of seo tools like scrapebox, GSA SER, GSA Captcha breaker, WSOs, hosting, domain name all these can add up to $1000+.
