Default Warriors Mentoring Their Own Parents in IM

Hey Warriors!

I did a vlog with my mom today where I kind of surprised her with a challenge to finally start making money online. The reason I did it publicly is because she's always asking me how I do it, wanting me to help her, but I give her tiny tasks and she procrastinates on it or feels overwhelmed.

So I put her on the spot.

After watching the video, tons of others have posted or emails me saying they TOO are mentoring their parents. It made me wonder how many other marketers in the same boat?

I have a HUGE core group of baby boomer and older customers as newbies so it's really something someone my parents' age wants to learn. I know there are already baby boomer products out there, too - but if you're mentoring your OWN parents, how's it going? What are you mentoring them to do exactly?

For me, I'm mentoring my mom in the cooking niche - going to help her start blogging FIRST them create her own info products and of course do affiliate marketing with it.

Tiff

hey Tiff,

I think most of us have at least tried to help our parents out. After initially telling me to "get a real job", my dad sat down and asked me for help because he said he didn't want to retire soon without any money.

Knowing he's an absolute beginner, I gave him a bunch of videos to watch and told him to just start watching them to get an idea of what we're doing. I was about to head off to India for a while and thought that once I got back, he'd at least know the basics and we could move forward from there.

But that's not exactly what happened...

When I did get home, I asked him how he went and he sheepishly said that he never watched a single video. Later I even built an affiliate site for him (this is how I got started) and showed him the ropes but he never even gave it a shot.

So while I think it's great if your parents really want to do it (I have a friend who helped his dad quit his job within a few months, now he's killing it) you can't make them do it if they lack the confidence and/or don't really have the desire.

I am mentoring a guy who is the same age as my dad and he's doing really well so far, so age has nothing to do with it

Let us know how your mum goes Tiffany

What videos did you send him? I too am trying to get my family into IM. I myself am a beginner, but I know enough to understand what the point of it is. I have sent beginner article links to him but so far I don't know if he has actually read much of it, he keeps saying he will get into it but I think he needs a really great video that will actually SHOW it.

Do you know any good video tutorials or something that would open his eyes to what is possible? I am also helping my mother start an eBay business and at the same time trying to get my younger brother to get into it.

I am not making any money at it right now though, so maybe they don't believe me LOL.

Hi Tiff,

My Dad who is 66 & retired has a couple of websites. I help him out with some technical stuff and SEO from time to time. He is doing pretty well, getting a decent amount of traffic and making money from Adsense.

If only I could get my husband interested in marketing, but he is more interested in his Xbox, LOL.

Cheers,
Suzanne

Tiffany, good for your mom! I loved watching that video, and I bet she'll do really well!

My mom has no interest in marketing, blogging, or anything to do with it. She's not a writer and she's a two-finger typist. She did join Facebook (even before I did) but only because her family and friends were bugging her to do it.

In the past she's expressed surprise that I can "do stuff online" and magically receive money into my bank account (I explained Paypal after that, no magic involved...LOL) but she's not the type to want to do it herself.

I say more power to any baby boomers who do get into it because it's an excellent, easy and fun way to supplement their retirement income or even start a rewarding career that offers them complete freedom and flexibility.
